Warm Up (20 mins)

In half field, with 2-full size goals, split players evenly into two areas as shown above.

i) Player's A & B run with the ball to the byline & cross into the grey area "NO MAN'S LAND'

ii) GK's come and collect cross and distribute with throw to waiting player.

iii) Once received GK's throw,REPEAT the process into a continuous flow.

Coaching Points

1) Starting Position: Angled body to face the field and the cross, middle of the goal, arms high, head on a swivel and on your toes.

2) Approach: IN Line with the ball, eyes on the ball, adjust feet forward or back depending on the cross (MUST, COULD or SHOULD area) and prepare to attack the ball.

3) Handling: Call 'KEEPERS', 'W' Catch on the middle-bottom of the ball, at its highest point, drawn into the chest and basket. OR if too far out, call "AWAY'.

Phase of Play: Part One (20 mins)

In a 36yd x 46yd area; Play 7v7+4 to big goals. Inside players cannot enter channel. Rotate wide players every 4-mins

i) NO Restrictions.

ii) Must use wide players in attack. NO defending in channel from opposing wide player

iii) Wide players can now defend in the channel when opponent receives the ball.

Coaching Points

1) Footwork: Adjust your starting position to where the ball is. Feet always moving, head on a swivel.

2) Organization: Adjust defenders positions to where the ball is and opponents. Be the 'General' of your defense

3) Confidence: When crosses come into the area, take charge of the situation. Honor your MUST, SHOULD, COULD areas and be confident in your execution and decisions.

Phase of Play: Part Two (25 mins)

In a half field area play 8 v 8 to big goals .

Formation: 1 - 2 - 3 - 2

i) NO Restrictions

ii) Only team in possession can play in the channels, no defenders.

iii) Once player receives the ball in the channel, a defender can enter to defend.

iv) Encourage GK to distribute to player in channel to expand the field and stretch opposition wide.

Coaching Points

1) Awareness: Read the game, see potential dangers before they arise and adjust yourself and defenders to limit them.

2) Technique: Utilize all previously worked on techniques to confidently handle crosses into the penalty area.

3) Chances Thwarted: Does your organized, communication and handling of crosses thwart scoring chances before they arise?
