Pinnie Tag (15 mins)

Activity Name: Piny Tag

Activity Description: Arrange players in the area each player with a ball. Give 3 or 4 players pinnies to hold in their hands. When the coach says go all players dribble around and if you are holding a piny you try to throw it and hit another player with it. If you get hit you pick the piny up and chase someone else. Play for a set time and at the end of that time the players holding pinnies do a fun punishment (i.e. donkey kicks, star jumps, Australian push-ups, sing a song)

Coaching Points:

Make sure you point out coaching points of dribbling.

Try to introduce different turns in the game. Encourage players to use these turns to get away from the players with the pinnies.

Remind the players that they need to keep the ball under control.

Batman & Robin (15 mins)

Activity Name: Batman & Robin 

Description: All players position themselves on one side of 'Gotham City' with a ball (bags of cash, stolen from the bank). They try to dribble their ball (bags of cash) from one side of the city to the other past the coach (Batman). The coach tries to kick each players ball out. If their ball is kicked out they become Robin/Cat woman and help Batman, If the players make it across they wait on the opposite side until the coach tells them to go again.

Coaching Points:

Keep Ball close.

Use different surfaces (laces, inside, outside)

Use attacking moves to try and beat the player.

Alien Attack (15 mins)

Activity Name: Alien Attack

Description: Arrange players on one side of the area without a ball. Select up to 3 players who will be the 'aliens'. The 'aliens' position themselves in the middle of the area with a ball. The players on the outside of the area get ready without a ball. When the coach yells 'alien attack' the players without the ball try to run from one side of the area to the other side of the area without getting caught by the 'aliens'. The 'aliens' catch the runners by dribbling their ball close to one of the runners and then throwing a piny that they are holding at the runner. The piny is the aliens 'slime ball' which they are firing at the runners. If a player is tagged with the 'slime ball' (piny) they get a ball and become an 'alien'.

Progression: Have all players with a ball and the players who are trying to avoid the aliens now dribble the ball rather than just running across the area.

Coaching Points:

  • Keep ball close and under control.
  • Look up to see which direction players are running in.
  • Use different parts of the foot to dribble the ball and change direction.

King or Queen of the Square (15 mins)

Activity Name: King or Queen of The Square

Activity Description: Arrange all players in an area with a ball. Players dribble around, keeping their ball under control and trying to kick other players balls out at the same time. If a players ball is kicked out they are out of the game. The last person in the area is the 'King' or 'Queen' of the area.

We do not want players standing around. So when a player has their ball kicked out of the area then have them perform a set skill outside the area.
