Technical Pressure/Delay. Cover/Screen. |
Objective: Coach behaviours of pressure/delay, cover/screen and balance.
Behaviours: Pressure/Delay. Cover/Screen. Balance.
Key Factors: Delaying and pressuring with nearest defender - shut down, slow down, get down. Covering and screening from second defenders with position guided by presence of closest attacking players. Pass off horizontal runners. Track vertical runners.
Organization: 20x30 yard grid. Teams divided into blue and white. Play 2v2 across the grid. Players defend then turn to receive pass and attack two new defenders.
Goal: To possess ball beyond the end line.
Conditions: Change grid width.
Variations: Play 3v3 with same organization but with wider grid.

Technical Pressure and delay. Covering and Screening. |
Objective: Coach cover from second defender.
Behaviours: Pressure and Delay. Covering and Screening.
Key Factors: Pressure or delay from the first defender. Cover and screening from the second defender. Visual cue off first defender position to guide cover. Visual cue of second attacker to guide depth of cover. Communication.
Organization: Play across a 20x20 grid marked by poles and cones. 2v2 across the grid. Players switch sides after their turn. Play begins with pass from defenders across to attackers.
Goal: Attackers attempt to possess ball across the end line of grid.
Conditions: Play 2v2 within the boundaries. Play until ball leaves grid or change of possession.

Technical Pressure and delay. Covering and Screening. |
Objective: Coach pressure and delay from first defender, cover and screen from other defenders.
Behaviours: Pressure and delay. Covering and screening. Providing balance.
Key Factors: Pressure from the closest defender. Other defenders take up position to both cover and screen targets in the end zone. Ensure the defenders position to screen passing lanes in addition to providing cover. Encourage that players stay in a block, rather than press.
Organization: Create 45 x 20 yard playing area with poles and cones to mark boundaries. Balls at coach behind area for restart. 8 attackers (white) vs 7 defenders (blue). Five defenders in area represent the MF (2), HM, and W (2). Two defenders in endzone are FB that may only pressure the wide neutral attackers. Attackers organized as above.
Goal: Attackers attempt to advance ball on the ground into target players in the endzone. Defenders attempt to win possession and play ball out of grid forwards with possession.
Conditions: Restart at coach into attackers.
Variables: May alter size of playing area and/or number of players within the grid.

Technical Pressure and delay. Covering and Screening. |
Objective: Coach pressure and delay from first defender, cover and screen from second defender.

Goal: Advance ball from players on end of grid through central players to players in opposite end zone. Defending players attempt to win possession then play with same goal, advancing to opposite end zone.
Conditions: Side players are neutral and play back to team in possession. No offsides. May play back to players on same side end line to maintain possession.

Objective: Coach proper shape and coverage by the CBs and FBs
Behaviours: Pressure and delay. Covering and screening. Providing balance.
Key Factors: Pressure from the closest defender. Other defenders take up position to cover with proper depth and compactness. Hand off horizontal movement and track vertical runs. Slide side to side as a compact unit.
