Technical 1 (20 mins)

Key Factors

  • Focus on starting position in relation to the ball
  • Move into line and down the line of the ball, defend the triangle
  • Set position - assessment when the ball is struck
  • Dive forward, if necessary, to attack the ball
  • Decision making - catch, parry or deflect
  • Handling Technique - W's, cup or scoop
  • Reactions to secure ball at second attempt if necessary.
  • Coaching feedback / intervention would be concurrent, positive and question based using 'how' and 'what' style questions.

Organisation

  • Three GK in the final third of the pitch with a full-size goal, twelve outfield players, six cones and twelve balls balls.
  • Coaching Position would initially be behind the goal but may change to side of penalty box  or behind shooters to observe from a different perspective.
  • Ball starts with an outfield player who will have a touch out of their feet and shoot before the cone initially fairly close to the GK as we want to work on the GK technique not necessarily the outfield players shooting technique.
  • Goalkeeper makes the save and will distribute out to the shooter if he has secured the ball
  • Outfield players take one shot each on the GK command and then outfield players change to next shooting position. GKs rotate after fielding 8 shots
  • Outfield players shoot on target rather than near GK on second rotation to ensure realistic practice.
  • Coaching feedback will be concurrent, positive and question based using 'how' and 'what' questions.

  • Ball starts with an outfield player who will pass into striker in yellow coned central "second penalty box" who has two touches to shoot at goal-keep tempo high to ensure realism. The server then moves to to the next section as does the shooter
  • Goalkeeper makes the save and will distribute out to the shooter if he has secured the ball
  •  GKs rotate after fielding 8 shots
  • Outfield players shoot on target rather than near GK on second rotation to ensure realistic practice.

Skill Session 2 (20 mins)

Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):

The outfield players are now split into two teams to take part in 2v2 session. The first two defenders start on the red cone either side of the penalty box and attempt to stop the first two attackers from getting a shot off from inside the second penalty box. Score is kept with defending team scoring 2 points for every attempt stopped from second penalty box and attacking team scoring 2 points for every successful shot from the second penalty box.

GK rotate after every 6 shots faced and outfield players rotate from attack to defender or defender to attack every 18 team attempts

Challenges, Conditions or Targets:

GK needs to ensure he maintains a good position at all times and adjusts angles accordingly.

Outfield defenders aim to 'shepherd' attackers into wide positions to ensure more difficult shooting opportunities

Outfield attackers aim to work opportunities in the second penalty box using good movement and tempo

SSG (20 mins)

Key Factors

  • Focus on starting position in relation to the ball
  • Move into line and down the line of the ball
  • Set position - assessment when the ball is struck
  • Dive forward, if necessary, to attack the ball
  • Decision making - catch, parry or deflect
  • Handling Technique - W's, cup or scoop
  • Reaction to secure ball at second attempt if necessary
  • Coaching feedback / intervention would be concurrent, positive , tactics board employed and question based using 'how' and 'what' style questions.

Organisation

  • SSG is played in full width of pitch with two teams 7v (inc GK). Two 'second' penalty areas are marked out to aid pitch geography for both GK and outfield players.
  • Outfield players are tasked defending 'both' of their penalty boxes when not in possession and forcing attackers wide denying opportunity to attack centrally
  • Outfield players are tasked to attack 'both' defending teams penalty boxes when in possession to ensure better shot opportunities from a favourable angle
  • GK are tasked to keep goal in the normal manner whilst communicating to their team mates to ensure shots from central areas are minimised
  • Goals scored from central areas count as double.
  • The game should be 3 x 8 minutes to allow rest breaks for players that should also act as tactical breaks - what can we do better? What can we do less? What can we do more? What do we need to maintain?
