Organisation (Practice Layout & Transition)
Small sided pitch, I used 4v4 model for u8s which would need roughly 30x24, cones or flats to mark off the attacking zone (can be different colour on the touchline), 1 goal & 2 mini goals if available and 4 bibs to separate teams.
Pitch can be laid out with 1 normal goal and 2 mini goals at each end. Transition between attacking and defensive session can be adjusted by moving the final third line/cones during a drinks break.

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Breaking the lines - Defending 4v4
- Mark out a final 3rd zone on a small sided pitch. Put one attacking player (red) in the zone and have 3 defending players (blue) protecting the zone.
- Reds are the attacking team, they must keep the ball in the possession zone in a 3v1 situation against a live defender. The reds target is to pass to their attacker.
- The 3 blue players must defend the area at the dividing line, not allowing the ball to be passed into the red player.
- If the blues intercept a pass or win the ball back, all blues progress into the possession zone, where they can score in either of the mini goals in a 4v3 situation.
Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):
- Regression: When blues win the ball back, red players must be passive
- Introduce larger goal and goalkeeper for the blues to attack when they win the ball.
- Blue team must keep possession of the ball for 10,15,20 seconds etc.. before scoring a goal
- Can the blue team score 5,10,15 etc.. seconds after intercepting the ball
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
- If the blue defensive line intercepts a pass and score in the mini goal, they are awarded1 goal
- If the blues intercept a pass, complete 3, 5 etc.. passes and score, they are awarded 2 goals
- If the red complete a pass to their attacker, the blues lose 1 goal
- If the reds complete a pass to their attacker and he/she keeps the ball for 10 seconds, the blues lose 2 goals

Attacking
4v3 small sided game
- Cone off the final 3rd of a small sided pitch, this will be the attacking/scoring zone.
- The game begins with the red team in possession.
- The 3 red players must keep the ball against the two blue players in their area. At the same time the red player in the attacking zone is free to move around.
- When the red team create an opportunity to break the blue defensive line, they must play a pass into the red attacker. The attacker then plays 1v1 with the blue defender to try to score a goal.
- Players rotate in and out of the attacking zone for both red and blue teams.
Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):
- Regression: remove defender, red attacker is 1v1 with the goalkeeper when receiving.
- Regression: Play 3 reds vs 1 blue if the reds are struggling with breaking the line.
- Allow blue player to move with the red player before the pass enters the zone
- When a forward pass is played, one red player may run into the attacking zone to create a 2v1 situation
- When a pass is played into the red attacking player, all red players may join the attack
- When a pass is plated into the red attacking player, all players are live in a 4v3 game.
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
- Can the attacking team complete 3,5 or more passes before breaking the line
- Can the attacking team score 5 goals in 2 minutes
- Can all three players in the possession area touch the ball before breaking the line
- Can the attackers break the line within 15, 10 or less seconds of having the ball
- Can the blue team outscore the red team when switching
