Pass and Move With 4 Squares (15min)
Set Up: Four players are locked into a square and must be freed by receiving a pass and dribbling out. The player that passed then becomes locked in the square until they receive a pass and can dribble out themselves. Cyclical process of passing and moving.
Coaching Points:
– Constant movement to receive
– Scanning the field to see open player
– First touch out of body into space
– Part of foot and follow-through to achieve correct weight of pass (inside foot, lock ankle)

Counter Attack Drill (20min)
Set Up: Make a 40x20 yard perimeter of play using cones. Need one additional goal in mid field. Need at least 2 teams to play
Drill: For 10 seconds one team will have possession for an attempt to score on goal. If they fail to score then the player who shoots or gives away possession waits at half way line for the next play. Essentially each team will practice having a 3v2 advantage on a counter attack.
Coaching Points: Encourage players to play fast and make high quality passes. Emphasize how important the first touch is on a counter attack.

Counter Attack From Deep Drill (20min)
Set Up: Need half the pitch and enough players to run a counter attack 4v3, 3v2, or 2v1
Drill: Coach will play ball to the mid fielder. Mid fielder will then have options to long pass to multiple teammates. Strikers will receive ball and attempt to score a goal. If the pass from the mid fielder is low quality by being off target then the player runs a lap around half the pitch.
Coaching Points:
- Ensure that the first touch from the mid fielder is a controlled touch
- Ensure that the mid fielder is playing high quality passes to their teammates. Observe for placement, strength of kicks, and kicking with proper side of foot.
- Ask the mid fielder why they chose to play the ball to certain teammates and not others.
- Motivate the mid fielder even when they are running a lap around the pitch.

7v7 Murder Ball (20min)
Set Up: Shorter length and Width Field. Splits team equally. No more than 7v7 to ensure engagement and maintain quick rotations between teams.
Game: The ball is fed in to either team to begin play and the team must play a normal match with emphasis on quick passing and intensity. As soon as a goal is scored, the ball is fed in to the conceding team to start a quick counter attack. The opposition must quickly react and recover their defensive shape. If the ball goes out of play, a fresh ball is immediately fed in from the coach to the opposition team to commence an attack and maintain the intensity. Keep a coach on both sides of the pitch with a healthy supply of balls to quickly feed back into play and maintain energy levels.
Coaching Points:
- Ensure quick high quality passes are being made
- First touch is extremely important with the field being much smaller
- Emphasize hustle and effort (every possession matters)
