Session focussing on receiving the ball to play forwards in a SSG using target players.

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Divide players into 3 teams.
Players spread out around a circle with one player from each team in the middle.
One ball per team.
Ball starts on the outside of the circle and plays into the middle player. Player follows his pass.
The middle player receives the ball and looks to play to another outer player. Again, player follows his pass.
Coaching points:
Make sure the middle player is aware of his surroundings.
Scan over shoulder and don't bump into any one.
Make sure the players play across to the opposite side of the circle as much as possible.

Set pitch up as shown with 2 target areas at each end with a target player in each of the target areas.
3 defending players occupy each of the defending zones running across the pitch.
The blue team has to try to play from one target player to the other, through the thirds without the red team intercepting the ball.
Coaching points:
Remind the players of the focus of the session - receiving the ball to play forward. Can they play forwards quickly?

If the first line of red defenders intercpt the pass, can they drive past the blue team, through the taget zone and stop the ball on the touch line?

If the second line of red defnders win the ball, can the reds combine against the 3 blues and score into the mini goal?
Or can they keep possession in a 6v3 using the middle section only

Progress game to allow one of the red defenders to leave their zone to press the blues.

Remove the defender zones but keep the pitch divided into thirds.
Now both teams can play into the target players.
The ball can only be played through the thirds with a forward pass. Not a dribble.

Get the middle player to make a movement to the side and receive that ball on the back foot, opening up his body to enable him to see mor eof the pitch.
Get the outside player who doesn't have the ball to hold up 1, 2 or 0 hands. The middle player must scan over his shoulder and call out the number of hands as the ball is played to him.
Coaching points:
Ensure proper passing and receiving technique.
