Description

Training for U6 players focusing on ball mastery and agility/coordination. 4 stations 8-10 minutes each. Do 2 stations, give a water break, 2 stations water break, then scrimmage. If a player wants water, let them get it. Don't stop for water too often unless there is excessive heat. Stop the last station with 15 minutes left regardless of the time into 4th station. Always end each session with a cheer. Do this training for both of your practice days in the same week. i.e do this same training Monday and Wednesday.

Maldini Challenge (10 mins)

ORGANIZATION (Physical Environment / Equipment / Players)

Cones in 10x15 grid. 1 ball per player and 1 pop up goal

COACHING POINTS / KEY CONCEPTS

Each player has a ball and must dribble in the area. 1 player in a bib (Paolo Maldini), takes the players ball and puts them in the goal. Once a players ball is in the goal, they stand next to the coach. The last player with the ball is Maldini in the next game. Coaching Points: stay in the grid, use cut moves to avoid the defender.

Tiger Tails (10 mins)

COACHING POINTS / KEY CONCEPTS

Each player but 1, has a bib tucked into the back of their shorts likea tail.1 player is it. He/She needs to pull the tail of each player.Once a players bib is pulled, they stand next to the coach. The lastplayer with a tail, is it for the next game.

Additional skills: skipping, galloping, side shuffle.

Sharks and Minnows (10 mins)

ORGANIZATION (Physical Environment / Equipment / Players)

Cones in 15x20 grid. 1 ball per player

 

COACHING POINTS / KEY CONCEPTS

Minnows need to dribble the ball to the end of the grid. The Shark needs to get the balls and shoot them into the goals. If a players ball is kicked into a goal, that player becomes a shark. If the shark misses the goal, the minnow gets to kep their ball. Minnows that make it to the other side, wait until the field is cleared. Once the coach says GO!, they may return to the other side. Coach may want to start as the first shark. If a shark is struggling to get players, help them out.

Dribble Gates

ORGANIZATION (Physical Environment / Equipment / Players)Cones in 15x20 grid with cones as gates around the area. 1 ball per player

COACHING POINTS / KEY CONCEPTS

Coach times the players for 30 seconds. Players keep track of how many gates they dribble through. When time is up, coach has players put their right foot on the ball and ask their score.

Do toe touches or ball boxes before starting again.

Do each of these for 30 seconds each: right foot only, left foot only,stop between the cone, pull back, popcorn flick.

COACHING POINTS / KEY CONCEPTS

Players run to the center, get 1 ball and dribble it back to their cone. Play continues until all of the balls are gone. Coach says, Go!. Players put the ball back 1 at a time.

Variations: right foot only, left foot only, pull back, popcorn flick

4v4 Game (20 mins)

ORGANIZATION (Physical Environment / Equipment /Players)

Cones to mark the field (20x30 or 30x50) cones tomark the goal or pugg goals. All extra balls.

COACHING POINTS / KEY CONCEPTS

4v4: Encourage players to keep the ball. Do not tell them to pass. Always coach from the middle of the field and try to let them play the last 5 minutes without any instruction. When the ball goes out, restart from the middle. Separate the players to their side, put in a new ball.
