Rondo (10 mins)

2 - 10x10 grids

Play in 6v2 and/or 5v2 in each grid. Starting with one grid then filling 2nd grid as players arrive

Play on arrival 

 Session start time 1 min break and quickly emphasize how play is going / What is working, what needs improvement

 Two 5 min intervals with 2 min break in between

All players and ball must remain in the grid

Coaching Points:

Pace of play

Want the ball

Know where you are playing before ball gets to you

Body shape to receive pass to play the direction you want to play to

Movement off the ball - look to get into passing lanes - Split defenders

Can we move around and not stand idle - No traffic cones

****Must be played with complete effort****

Technical Warm Up 1 (10 mins)

20x20 Grid

2 players inside with 1 ball

A starts with ball and passes to C

C passes back to A, C goes into center of grid

A passes to D and D then passes to C who has entered the grid

C passes to B

B starts over with combination play on the outside

Start slow to get the pattern

Can we improve intensity to 1 and 2 touch play

Coaching Points:

Angled approach to the ball to allow open body position and be able to see the playing area

Supporting player must recognize where the play needs to go to and set up in those areas

Supporting player must also have open body shape to receive the pass

Passes must be accurate and appropriately weighted

Passes on the surface

Receive with back foot

Hold up play and turning with the ball

Communicate

2v2 +2 (10 mins)

(2) 5x5 grid with 2 small goals placed as shown

Players divided into 3 teams of 4 with pairs in each grid

Play 2 minutes then change roles

Play intended to go left to right

Target players on outside on left and right ends 

Coaching Points:

Possession

 Move off of ball to create passing lanes for yourself and teammates

 Play how you are facing

 Check space - take a picture and play to the picture

  Where is the space / Where are defenders / Where are teammates

  Can we get on the half turn and play through

  Read play and move while ball is moving - 3rd man runs or in position to receive from target player 

Defending

 Close space

 Low athletic shape

 Defend passing lane

10x20 grid divided in half by yellow markers

Play designed to move between blue target players on end lines

Blue plays with yellow bumpers

Red defend

Blue starts with possession on either end and look to play through the halves using green bumpers

Red win the ball they pass to an end blue then switch roles with green bumpers

Coaching Points:

Possession

 Body position - facing where we want to play / get into half turn when able

 Communication

 Pace of play

 Movement off of ball into passing lanes and between lines  

Defending

 Defending as a unit - Pressure/Cover

 Play compact

 Transition to attack 

 Transition to defending on loss of possession
