Organization:

3v3, 4v4 dependent on age/ability of players

Instructions:

If you shoot, whether it scores or goes out of bounds, the player that shot the ball must run around the goal that they are shooting towards.

Team that is now in possession plays from one of the balls that has been placed on the endline

Coaching Points:

-Look to take advantage of the momentary numbers up situation

-Look to establish 3 lines of attack when in possession of the ball

4 Team World Cup

Organization:

- 3-4 goals

- All balls with coach

- 3 players per goal

Instructions:

-Teams pick a Country

-Coach starts the game by rolling ball into area, players compete to win ball and then try to score in opponents' goals.

-Teams are given 3 lives. Everytime an opponent scores on your goal, your team loses one life.

-Once all lives are taken from a team, that team must flip their goal over.(Team still competes, if that team is able to score on another team, they gain 1 life back and their goal is flipped back to play. Max lives added- 1).

Coaching Points:

-Be aggressive in trying to win initial possession of ball

-Recognition of space and pressure (do you need to turn?)

-When to attack and when to defend

-Head up and accellerate when turning

-Recognition of open areas when space is taken up by defenders

-1v1, 2v2, 3v3

Reverse Goals (20 mins)

Learning Outcomes:

-Ability to identify when to turn based on the quality of the pressure.

-Understanding which kind of turn to use to protect the ball while turning based on the pressure.

Organization:

-8 red cones, 2 mini goals.

-Two teams in line. Coach in the middle.

-All soccer balls behind coach.

-Mini goals facing away as seen above.

Instructions:

-Coach passes the ball through the middle. One the pass, the next player from each team race and play 1v1.

-First player to score gets a goal for their team. Players can score in either goal.

-Play for 30 seconds (coaches discretion) or until the ball goes out or a goal is scored.

-First team to "x" based on quality of the players. Switch sides each round.

Coaching Points:

-Reaction off the line to get body position in front of your opponent.

-Positive first touch to get to goal quickly.

-Carry the ball on the foot furtherst from the defender to protect.

-Use of a turn to lose the defender.

-Quality of turn.

Progressions:

-Numbers Game: Each player on the team has a number. Coach calls a number(s) and game continues as before.

-Players start in different positions: Sitting, laying down, hopping, eyes closed, etc.

-Ball is chipped in by coach.

Regressions:

-First player to touch the ball gets and advantage: The player with out the ball must touch one of the goals before they can defend.

-Team that gets scored on get the ball played towards them. If no one scored in previous 1v1 ball starts down the middle.

Passes = Goals SSG (20 mins)

Organization:

Approx 20yds x 16yds, 6 cones needed for sidelines

use of Pugg/Pop-Up goals

Instructions:

- Split your group into 3 teams (it's okay if uneven numbers)

- Play 2 minute rounds, team with the most goals at end of 2 minutes stays on.

- If no winner at the end of 2 minutes, ties solved by:

- first team in size order

- first team in alphabetical order, first name

- first team in the shape of a house (be creative)

- make up your own, make it incorporate teamwork and problem solving

Coaching Points:

- Let them figure it out.

- Great chance to address principles of play (width, depth, mobility)

- Lots of individual reference regarding technique

- Lots of running commentary to guide players to solutions through your questions. Help them figure it out but don't give them the answers.

- Allow them to express their interpretation of a solution

Progressions:

P = not needed entirely. the game competition should bring out enough challenge

R = if players struggle with even opposition, add the third team as neutral players along the outside. make it doesn't ruin the flow of the game, perhaps limiting touches.
