Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): Passing and Receiving

SET UP

Area size approximately20x20 (or to suit age group or ability)

RULES

Players are in groups of 2 inside the playing area, with 4 players serving on the outside (as per diagram 1). Server plays the ball to a player inside, who combines with a pass to their team mate. Team mate then returns the ball back to the server, the pair in the square then find another server on the outside and repeat the process. Work for 45sec/1min then change the outside players.

 PROGRESSIONS

• Player on the outside passes to the furthest player  first
• Can you combine a 1-2 with your partner before passing back to the outside or must make a combination around another player in the square

• Technique - part of the foot used to strike the ball / follow through and body shape when receiving or passing.
• Ball control when receiving a pass

• Firm passes on the ground (weight of pass)

• Create passing lanes
• Body shape when receiving the ball

SETUP

Two playing areas of 30x20 with a halfway line (cones). 2v2 in the playing area with a target player at either end.

RULES

1 defender can only defend in their designated half. Attackers are free to play in any half (2v1's). The attackers attempt to transfer the ball from one target player to the other through passing combinations. The target player cannot be used as a bounce player unless the 2 attackersstruggle to get the ball into the opposite half)
