Play starts with a switch between neutral players
- red #10 can recover as soon as ball is played into area
Red
- score by playing into one of the neutral players and getting it back (can't use both), passing into mini-goals (wingers), getting a player on the ball over half-way!
Blue
- combine to score in the big goal
- must play through the front of the area
Neutrals
- CB's for Blue, ST for red
If ball goes out or goal scored, start from neutrals.
2 x transition only
Notes - Attacking
- Forwards first and central mentality
- Patient in possession
– use the shift to open up spaces in front
- Use wide players later in the attack if required
Notes - Defending
- Trap opposition in wide areas. Nothing through the middle
- Press from the front if possible
- If press is beaten, look to retreat and repair – protect central areas
Player Tasks - General
- Can you get into a position where you can receive to play forwards first time?
- General – can you attempt to create overloads against the opposition (2v1 / 3v2)
- General – ensure balance in attacks – 3.5 back in defence / 6.5 attack
- General can we always look to provide passing options ahead of the ball and to the side
- 6/7/8/10/11 – Can you receive the ball with a pass that breaks a defensive line? Receive behind opponents
- 7/9/11 – At least one of you needs to threaten in behind at all times
- 7/11 – Can you drop into receive between FB & CB, and defenders and midfield?
- 9 – Can you position yourself to always be an option for a forward pass?
- 9/8/10 – Can you ensure that you are operating in different passing lines
- 8/10 – If the ball goes into the 9’s feet, get into a position to support behind / underneath.
- 7/11/8/10 – If there is a set back from the 9, can at least one of us get in position of receive in behind?
- 6/10/8 – Make sure that we are not a flat line of three when we are in possession.
Coach’s Cues
- 6/8/10 – If there is a passing option central and forwards, play quickly. If the defenders are blocking it, play to somebody else who can pass forwards.
- 11/7/10 – If the FB presses tight, spin into the space behind. If they aren’t, drop to receive to feet. - 7/11 – If 8/10/9 drop into the inside pocket, look to receive in behind or out wide
- 8/10 – If the opposition midfield are narrow, roll out to receive on the outside
- 8/10 – If the opposite CM drops in to receive, stay high.
- 10 – If the target (9) is positioned on the ball side, offer an angle on the non ball side.
- 8/10 – If there is space for the 9 to receive and lay off, support the ball underneath. If there is an opportunity in behind, break there quickly.
- 9 – If you have no options when you receive the ball, pin and protect until you do. If there is an option 1st time, play it.
- 6/8/10 – If defenders are sitting deep, dribble to engage and create overload, or wall pass to draw them out
