4v4(+2)
Organisation
Teams play 4v4 with two neutral players playing for the team in possession in a 24x24yd box. Points are scored for 6 consecutive one touch passes. If extra touches are required then players can take them. Rotate neutral players every 3 mins.
Progression
After 6 consecutive one touch passes, teams can earn a bonus point by either passing into a small goal or knocking a ball off a cone in one of the corners of the field.
Coaching Points
- Accuracy / detail / weight of passes
- Movement off the ball to create angles to receive
- Think about what you are going to do with the ball before you receive it
- 'Scan' the field

Game Related Practise - (both groups)
Organisation
Three boxes 8 x 24 yards. Three teams. Objective is for white team to play through red team to get to blue team. Coaching focus is on the red team moving together and stopping any passes going between them.
Progression
- Defending team can send one defender (at a time) into the outside zones to press the ball
Competition
Interceptions v penetrating passes - keep score

Defensive Shape - Complete in two separate groups
Organisation
Green team set up as a back four and move in relation to the ball being moved by the yellow team. Eg;
- 'slide' across when the ball is played wide
- 'push up 'when the ball is played back
- 'drop off' and go side on when deepest man threatens to play in behind
- Closest central player presses the striker when ball played in and other defenders change their position accordingly to offer cover.
Progression / Variation
- After a succession of passes to move the defenders, coach calls ATTACK and yellows try to score a goal. Greens defend goal and try to score in mini goals if they win it back.
- 2nd progression - add screening defender and extra midfielder and play 5v5
Coaching Points
- Communicate 'up' 'drop' 'slide'
- On the front foot, ready to move quickly
- Go side on when dropping off, anticipating a ball in behind
- Triangle of cover if central player goes to press the ball

Defensive Shape - 10 v 8 - (if we have 22 players play 11 v 11 across the field)
Organisation
Green team defend 10v8 on a half field. Coach calls for the attack to start from either 1 - right back or 2 - left back. Reds try to score in the big goal and greens in one of the mini goals
Progression
- Coach puts a new ball in play when the game breaks down and defensive team have to adjust shape
Coaching Points
- Shape of back 4 - 'up' together, 'slide across' together and cover positions when defender moves out of back 4 to press
- Distances between defenders and communication
- Position of '6 and 8' out of possession - narrow to prevent passes to opposition '9' and close to opposition '8' and '10' (2-1 out of possession then 1-2 in possession)
- wide players dropping back in to make 4-1-4-1 out of possession (4-3-3 in possession)

Organisation
Teams line up 1-4-2-3 playing across a half field. Emphasis on maintaining good defensive shape in the back four and consolidating previous coaching points.

Variations
1) No restrictions (2 mins)

4) Passer must move to another side of the square (2 mins)

Encourage players to keep count of the number of passes they complete
