Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): HYSC Week 4 Development Program Team Training changing direction/Turns Unballance,Momentum,Penetrate
Description
This week the focus will be on using wide angled runs to draw defenders wide away from the center/goal creating space to penetrate into using turning moves
We will achieve this by teaching the players, multiple technical turning moves giving them the attributes that will then later be put to test with real game pressured situations, this will allow the players to gain a better understanding of decisions they have to make in a real game environment.

Organization:
20x30 grid split into three channels
gates and start cones as shown on the diagram
pinnies for progression
Instructions:
-A) attackers will set off from the start cone and run through a gate of their choice
-D) defenders will set off at the same time but run through the opposite gate from the attackers choice.
-Attackers will try to change direction to unbalance the defender, once they see the defenders momentum is committed they must try and change pace to get through the gate to score a point.
-if the defender sees the attacker is committed to a gate they must gets through the opposite gate first to steel the point ..
-players rotate to the opposite line then change roles.
points
the attackers will dictate which gate they want to go throught
Coaching Points:
-Attacking the space forward on the field (looking to
penetrate)
Identification of the space
-Identification of the defender momentum/committed
-Decision whether to change direction based on the
above
-Space ahead & defender behind cut across
-Use of body, arms etc to fake
-defenders is beat change pace
Progressions:
have the players tuck pinnies in their shorts and play 1v1
move defenders start cone closer
the defender must now try to steel the attackers pinnie before they get through the gate.
CP-
teach the players to protect their asset (pinnie) by planning their movment ahead to beat defender using body to sheild the pinnie.
change the side the pinnie is on every time so the player can work at protecting both angles.
A gets a point by getting through the gate
D gets a point for getting the pinnie.

Organization:
20x30 grid split into three channels
gates and start cones as shown on the diagram
every player with a ball
Instructions:
1)Repetitions ,players will set off from both sides of the grid and perform a turn/change of direction x2 with both feet of coaches choice (refer to coaching points) then changes pace and dribble through the right or left gate coach will decide.
Players on the end of each line waiting to go next must hold a number up 0/5 for the players who are live, this will create a habit in the players to get there head up after beating the player and see whats ahead.
PG
the end waiting players will also serve as judges and the players who are live can gain an extra point after the gates by racing back to the end line who ever makes it back first will gain a point this will create a habit in the players to change pace when they have space ahead.
Progression
-A) attackers will set off from the start cone and dribble through a gate of their choice
-D) defenders will set off at the same time but dribble through the opposite gate from the attacker's choice.
-Attackers will try to change direction using a move to unbalance the defender, once they see the defenders momentum is committed they must try and change pace to dribble through the gate to score a point.
-if the defender sees the attacker is committed to a gate they must get throught the opposite gate first to steel the point ..
-players rotate to the opposite line then change roles.
Coaching Points:
-Attacking the space forward on the field (looking to
penetrate)
-Identification of the space
-Identification of the defender
-Decision whether to turn based on the
above
-Space ahead & defender behind (cut across and dribble)
-Space behind and defender alongside (turn)
-Space ahead and defender behind (turn)
-Use of body, arms etc to fake
-Protect the ball or not? (risk vs reward)
-Distance of touch (helps next action)
-Direction of touch (based on next action)
-End product

Organization:
1. Area size 15 x 20 or 20x30
Instructions:

2. players must not step inside the red cone areas in front of goal this will stop goal tending ,the players must shoot from out side the area

3.when to Dribble,Pass or Shoot
4.reinforce the characteristics of each foundational player and how the use the foot work with the space they have.
Week 3 Restart & team shape
the restart this week will start with a kick in for U8 and throw in for U9 coach will demonstrate correct technique for the group.this week we will reinforce Goal kicks when the ball goes out behind the goal this is a perfect time to bring out the principle of play creating width having options to play out of the back first pass is free. this will also be a great moment to see from the goal kick if we can makeplay wide trying to draw the defences out and look to penetrate in the center when space is available. Team shape will be based on a 3v3 or 4v4 format pick the best formation to bring out your topic examples on diagrams above.
Rules
the secondary learning outcome from the start which every body has 5 points reinforce this by nowfocusing on there individuality in the game and their team play, they will loose points for bunching up and getting to close to their players. also, they can win points by making a successful pass or move to beat the player. coach will judge .
along with wins 3points draws 2points and losses 1point the team with the most over all points including bonus points will win the tournament at the end of practice.
Week 4 Principle of play!
this weeks principal of play will be about penetration using width encouraging the players to move wide drawing in defences and creating more space centraly to expose the goal .try to base your game stoppages around this princaples but recreate a realistic game situation to bring out your learning outcomes.

Organization:
Area size 15 x 20 or 20x30
every player with a ball
2-4 Pug goals or cone goals as shown above
players split into two teams with pinnies.
Instructions
depending on the goals you want to set for your teams each week choose from the bellow foundations the best ones to bring out the learning outcomes you want your players to acheive during the game.
Group/individual control
start by giving each player 5 points at the start of the session when they do somthing well like a move or answer a question based on the topic you can give them a point to reward them, if they do something wrong you can take points away giving them ownership of their own progress holding them accountable for each step and motivating them to be better and compete to be the best from the minute the session starts.
the player with the most points at the end of the session will receive MVP!!!!
GK's )if you have GK's in the game add in rules specifically for them such as allow them to use there hands to steel in the individual and group possession activitys.
Foundations Part 1 individual possession surface control & Soccer side work recap
as the player trickle in before a game have them recp the home work that was sent out . then when the majority of the group is there .each player must complete a series of ball mastery surface control the coach or player will demonstrate the bellow list of moves and have the players copy for 1 minute of repetition for each one
beginner
-pendulums inside of the foot forward+backward
-toe taps forward+backward
intermediate
-v turn & touch
-u turn & touch
advanced
-U turn & touch
-L turn & touch
-Ronaldo chop & touch
Foundations part 2 individual possession player attributes
players dribble the ball around the inside of the grid and cover each foundation M,X,R,I.players will also be given a number 1,2,3 or 4 on each team.
on coaches command they will call out a number the players whos numbers were called out will become defenders trying to steel the ball. in the example in the diagram #2 was called so both #2's will go to defend
If the defenders steel they will transition and try to score in one of the pug goals for a point
the players on the ball will gain points by keeping possession of the ball for the entire round.(30 second rounds).
Player characteristics
"Painting the Picture" of each one of the player's characteristics: * MESSI: Head up looking to get into the gaps using small, quick touches with the Pinky Toe (outside of the foot). * XAVI: Head up to recognize when there's no gaps/space, then change of direction (12 o'clock to 6 o'clock), ball comes out of your feet, and then head and eyes up getting into the new space. * RONALDO: Head up to see when there's a lot of space in front of you, then big touch to accelerate and get your head/eyes up and attack the space. *INIESTA : Head up to recognise small tight spaces ,using the inside/outside surfaces of the foot to unbalance defenders to make the space big enough to penetrate.
Foundations part 3 Group possession
-same set up as foundations part 2 but this time the teams share one ball and keep possession as a group. coach will call out a number and this time they will go to defend against their opposite color. every 3 passes they can make, they will receive a point and an extra 3 points if they maintain possession for they entire round.
-if the defence steels the ball they must transition to score to gain a point they can also combine to go to goal too.
Coaching Points:
Individual possession
-Knowing when to hold, protect, dribble and when to run with the ball
-Timing and execution of moves
-Cut & accelerate into space behind def
