3v1+1 (25 mins)
Organization: Full area of gym at Heritage Glen divided into three horizontal zones (10 yards deep). Two target goals on both end lines. Defensive and central attacking starting cones located as shown. Supply of balls on one end line with the attacking starting cone.
Activity: 3v1+1 passing and possession activity. Three attackers on field; two wide and one central attacker; position as shown (balance of attackers behind goals). One defender on field and one ready to come on as a recovering defender - located near the back and to the side (balance of defenders off to one side).
Start: One wide attacker passes ball to central attacker starting the play; once the Blue player takes first touch recovering defender can join. Objective is for Blue to attack the opposite goals and for the defenders to stop them. If a defender wins the ball they can score on opposite goals. Once a goal has been scored or ball is out of bounds, rotate in players and restart same as above. Rotate defenders into attackers after four minutes.
Condition: One attacker must be in middle zone for a goal to count (depth in attack).
Progression:
1) No more than 1 attacker can be in the same zone (more movement off the ball to be successful); except when ball in attacking third
2) Two touch
3) One touch back pass
4) Play 3v1 + 2 recovering defenders.
Coaching Points:
1) Body orientation - see the ball, opponents and teammates = all options; to make the best decision
2) Can you anticipate where your teammates will require support?
3) Speed of play
4) Quality passing - weight and location of pass; back foot for speed.
Questions: When do we have them over loaded ? What do the attackers have to do differently of the recovery defenders are allowed to get behind the ball? Defenders: Easier or harder to defend is attackers in more than one zone?
