'Grid' Game (Breaking the lines).
Field set-up:
A) 4v4 -make field 25x25 yard and place cones to create 4 squares in the big field.
B) 5v5- Make grid 60 x 30. Very similar to A but since there are goalies in a 5v5 game. We've added a final a zone in front of each goalie. This allows for attackers to have space to get a shot off and can be used as an offside line as well.
Rules: Attacking team is free to go wherever they want to create goal scoring opportunities. Defending team can only defend in their respective grids.
Why? this allows attacking team to create 2v1 opportunites in each grid and find pockets of space for their teammate to break the line of pressure.
Coaching points: FIELD SET-UP. This is the most improtant thing to bring out the topic. Peaking, receiving hips open when you have space and time. Movement off the ball.
Progression:
1) Defenders can defend in final zone for the 5v5 game.
2) (advanced) Attackers have to play penetrating pass into final zone for player to run onto. (advanced)
3) Free play with no restrictions
