Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): U11 Decision making (passing vs dribbling) (1.5h)

Tom and Jerry (5 mins)

Organization:

30x20 area

12 players

3 pinnies

Five 2x2x2 triangle

Instructions:

3 taggers (players with pinnies) must tag a player not in a triangle.

Runners can find shelter in the triangle but by going in will flush player inside.

Coaching Points:

Quickly find an open triangle.

Head up to look for tagger.

quick change of direction.

Progressions:

Add tagger/remove triangle shelter.

2v1 (15 mins)

Organization:

15x20yd grids

Players in groups of 4 - one player on end, two players in middle

Instructions: Middle attacker and outside player try to score by dribbling across end line - defender scores in opposite direction

Coaching Points:

Recognize position of defender - dribble with space, pass if defender pressures ball

Technique of touches, passes

2nd attacker - create space

Look to score 1st

Progressions:

Add target player on the end

Game to 4 goals (15 mins)

Organization:

40 x 30 area (wider than long).

4 mini goals placed in width.

3 teams of 4. Subs come in every 3 minutes.

Instructions:

Try and combine in wide areas to goal. Play back to player if pressure on and cannot turn.

Coaching points:

(1). Quality and accuracy of passing to help the receiving players next action

(2). Awareness of the next action before it happens

(3). Timing of movement off the ball - checking to ball

(4). Playing around the defensive block
