Duration: 15-20 minutes

Setting Up:

Defensive practice : 3 Defenders vs 4 Attackers

Divide players into two teams: 3 defenders and 4 attackers.

Position the defenders in their usual formation with a solid defensive line.

Place the attackers in an attacking formation.

Ensure the defending team has a goalkeeper to simulate real game situations.

Instruct the defenders to maintain a compact defensive shape, keeping a coordinated backline.

Encourage the defenders to communicate and work together to press the attackers when they have the ball.

Emphasize the importance of covering for each other, with one defender pressing the ball carrier and others providing support and covering passing lanes.

Encourage aggressive but controlled pressing to force mistakes from the attackers.

Once the defenders win possession, emphasize quick transition to attack.

Instruct the defenders to look for opportunities to play the ball forward and support the attackers.

Encourage fast, decisive passing and movement to catch the opposition off guard during the transition.

Coaching Points:

  • Maintain a solid defensive line to minimize space for the attackers.
  • Communication is key: encourage players to talk to each other and organize defensively.
  • Timing of pressing: teach players when to press and when to hold their position.
  • Transition quickly to attack: capitalize on turnovers to catch the opposition off guard

Fun Game: One Touch Shot Challenge

Duration: 15-20 minutes

Splitting into Groups:

Divide the 8 players into 2 equal groups of 4 players each.

Position each group in front of the goals.

Assign a coach or adult to stand in the goal and serve as the goalkeeper for both teams.

The coach's role is to send the ball forward to players for shooting.

Game Rules:

Players from each group take turns attempting one-touch shots on goal.

The coach serves the ball to each player, who must attempt to shoot on goal with only one touch.

If the player successfully scores a goal, they remain in the game.

If the player misses the target or the goalkeeper makes a save, they have one more chance to score.

If the player misses both attempts, they are out of the game.

Coaching Points:

Emphasize the importance of accuracy and quick decision-making in one-touch shooting.

Encourage players to keep their shots low and on target to increase the chances of scoring.

Remind players to stay composed and focused, even under pressure.
