Principle of Play/Main Moment/Football Problem or Four Core Skills:

  • Attacking/Ball Possession/ Running with the Ball

Session Objective: Attacking Principles (U6 – U9) -  Penetration/Mobility/Improvisation

  • Can you run with the ball?
  • Can you keep your head up when running with the ball?
  • Can you hide the ball?
  • Can you keep the ball?
  • Can you use both feet when running with the ball?
  • No Standing Zone!
  • Correct running/dribbling/passing with the ball technique.
  • Ensure you show players how to keep their head up.
  • Work on coordination and agility.

Mosquitoes (15 mins)

Session Organisation:

  • Divide the players into two even groups with each red player with a ball.
  • One group campers (yellow) and one group mosquitoes (red).
  • Field size 15 (L) x 15 (W).

Rules/Explanation:

  • While dribbling around the area, the mosquitoes chase the campers.
  • Mosquitoes should get close to campers and pass the ball to hit the campers feet below the knees.
  • Any pass above the knees does not count..
  • Players to switch roles after 1.5 minutes.
Progressions
  • The time of sets or size of the area can be adjusted to suit the needs and abilities of the players.

Tactical Coaching Points:

  • As above.

Session Timing:

  • Complete 4 sets of 1.5 minutes with a 1 minute rest in between sets.
