Method: Warm Up Passing and Possession Function 

Details:

Warm up = Ball manipulation , turns change of tempo skills , change of pace for Transitions to defend. 

4vs2 into 6vs4 possession

 Areas Of Focus

1. Passing and receiving.

2. How they receive the ball (what part of the foot and never stop it dead)

3. Body shape receiving the ball.

4. Passing the ball with different parts of the foot.

5. Weight and Intensity of pass.

6. Where to pass the ball(safe side from the opponent)

Phase Of Play

Method: Phase of Play 20 minutes. 9 v 9 game 


I will be working on the blue team. They will have 2 sitting players behind the half way line that start the attack. 1 of them is allowed join in but they other must stay behind the half way line. They can alternate as the game goes on and during play also. The blue team have to try score in the goal. The red team must defend the goal and when they win the ball back they can score in any of the 3 small goals.

I will be focusing on the wingers and full back movement, when to come inside and when to stay out wide, while also interchanging with the attacking midfield player and striker at times.

11v11 Practice

Method: 11 v 11 practice focusing on wide attacking play.


Working on the blue team in a 1-4-4-1-1 formation against the red team in a 1-4-2-1-3 formation

Coaching Points:


Starting Positions

  • Wingers stay high and wide occupying full backs.
  • Striker and attacking midfield player stay high onto their defenders stretching the play.
  • CB's looking for the ball off our keeper on the edge, if not drop into the edge of the 6 yard box depending on the press.
  • Full backs stay wide on the touchline and drop if needed for the cb's
  • 2 midfield players drop and look for the ball

Quality in Possession

  • Taking care of your passing both short and long.
  • Good weight of pass. 
  • Playing passes safe side of defenders.
  • Communicating with your players e.g. "turn out" or "set".
  • Concentration when on the ball.
  • Good body shape, being able to see what is behind you.
  • Decision making.
Movement (Key Players)
  • Working on different movements with my wingers, full backs, striker and attacking midfield players.
  • Where to be when the ball is on your side of the pitch.
  • Where to be when the ball is on the opposite side of the pitch.
  • If a player makes a movement can the another forward player fill the space.
  • When to move inside and when to stay out wide.
  • Communication with each-other.
End Product
  • Being positive on the ball and try things in the right areas e.g. taking on defenders and through balls.
  • Concentrating on crosses and beating the first defender when you have a chance to cross.
  • Strikes at goal and hitting the target.
  • Good quality.
Transition To Defend
  • Goalkeeper must be on the edge of his box organising and communicating with the defenders.
  • The cb's must be organising and communicating with the midfield players and full backs. If there is one player up front the 1 centre half in front and 1 behind.
  • Deepest midfield player picks up their highest midfielder and doesn't allow them turn on the ball too easily.
  • Full back on the opposite side to where the ball is to be pushed in on the winger.
  • Fast recovery runs and closest player presses.
