Initial Game (20 mins)

Organisation: Full 1/4 pitch.  14-16 players

Activity:  Play 2 teams, each with a goalie.  Play starts 1vs0 with player starting from team A on breakaway from their goal line to shoot on opposing goalie.  As soon as ball is out of play or saved, 2 opposing players from team B dribble in to make it 2v1 and try to score on counter.  When play is out of play or saved, 2 players from team A dribble in a ball to make it 3v2....as so on until all players have joined the play.  2 rules:  10 seconds to score; each attacking player must be past half field.

Coaching Points:

Can attackers use pace to catch defenders out of position?

Is attacking team able to get numbers in dangerous areas near goal?

Are attacking players pushing up together as a unit to reduce gaps?

Providing support?

Providing targets to score?

Activity

Organisation:  Use 2/3 of pitch.

Activity:  Begin with 7 attackers and 3 defenders, plus 1 GK.  Play begins 1 defender in each of 3 areas, who  are not allowed to press up into higher areas, but are allowed to drop into areas to defend their goal.  Play starts when 1 CB grabs ball from ball area, and plays to either other CB or FB, who will attempt to advance ball into next area to CDM, W or CAM.  CDM/W/CAM attempt to advance ball into final area and score on goal.  As attackers advance ball to next area, they will move up with play and join attack.  Examples: (A) FB makes run down flank. (B) a CB pushes past half, other (C) CB push up to cover area behind midfielders.  (D) CDM pushes up to top of penalty area. (E) Winger and (F) CAM push into box to become options.  (G) Striker attacks the net.  If defenders win ball they try to score in bow net on either sideline
