Description

UEFA Disney Playmakers - The session is designed to introduce girls aged 5 - 8 years old to football. Working on life skills, fundamental movements and football basics in a fun and engaging environment inspired by Disney, the aim is that girls will form a life long positive relationship with participation in football.

Arrival

Session Number: 4 of 10 (film minutes 44-55mins)

Group: Up to 16 x 5-8 year old girls

Session length: 45 mins

Ability level: Beginner

Learning Objectves:

  • To develop life skills and values of team work, listening and communication skills, imaginative thinking, working alone, leadership, fairness, positive attitude and resilience.

  • To develop fundamental movement skills and spacial awareness relating to a variety of ways to walk, run, jump, balance, skip, crawl, stopping, landing, turning, twisting.  
  • To develop football basics of moving without a ball, moving with a ball in a variety of ways including dribbling, bouncing, catching and throwing.

  • Balls (variety of sizes)

  • Bibs
  • Cones (tall and flat)
  • Toy Story 4 film - Adventure 4 Scene Cards (showing relevant scenes from the chapter of the film)
  • Toy Story 4 character profile cards (Bow, Giggle McDimples, Billy, Goat and Gruff, Woody, Buzz, Ducky, Bunny, Benson, Dragon, Forky).
  • Toy Story 4 soundtrack and player

Set-up

  • Draw the set up on a whiteboard with all equipment set out.
  • Support the children as they arrive to set an area up appropriate to the ability and size of the group.
  • The area should be split into three equal areas as shown in the diagram with equipment as shown in the diagram (appropriate to size of group), place story cards and character cards within Area 1.

Arrival 

  • Once the area is set up ask each child to collect a ball to look after.
  • Whilst waiting for all children to arrive, children can travel around the area with their ball in any way they choose.
  • Children should visit the scene cards and character cards to familiarise themselves prior to the start of the session.
  • The film soundtrack can be played whilst the children are arriving. 
  • Ask the children to tell each other their name as they pass each other.
  • On arrival of all children or the start time the session can begin.

Introduction/Characters/Setting (5 mins)

Introduction 

  • Ask the children to come together.
  • Recap the previous session asking children:
    • What they remember from the session?
    • What they remember about the story so far?
  • Support the children to remember the story so far and what happened in the previous session should it be required.

The Story

  • Ask children if they know the next part of story or what they think the next part of the story is?
  • Using the scene picture cards and the character cards the coach can support the children to narrate the next part of the story. (See Adventure 4 Scene Cards)

  • Ask the children what they would like to get from the session

The Adventure - The Skunk! (15 mins)

Adventure 1 - The Skunk! 

Part 1

  • Ask the children, using the equipment available to make their own fairground ride in area 1. 
  • Once they have constructed their fairground ride, when the music/or on your command the children can move around the area in anyway they wish (like Bow in her Skunk Car). 
  • When the music stops they can stop in anyway they wish. 
  • Progress to moving with a ball. 
Part 2
  • When the music stops or on command ask the children to get together with the person closest to them (like Bow and Billy, Goat and Gruff or Woody)
  • Can they now travel around the area (Fairground) together in a team (just like Bow and Billy, Goat and Gruff or Woody) with a ball each. 
  • Once they have finished their adventure through the fairground they go through the gate into Area 2 (The Antique Store)

Coaching points

  • Encourage different ways to move if required - walk, run, hop, jump, on two parts of the body, on four parts of the body... 
  • Encourage different ways to stop if required - on two feet, on one foot, on three parts of the body... 
  • Encourage different ways to move with the ball, two hands, one hand, one foot, both feet, between the knees, bouncing... 
  • The session is differentiated by child choice, however be mindful of the STEP (Space, Task, Equipment, People) theory to adjust the difficulty level ensuring appropriateness of activity.

The Adventure - Follow Bow, stay together, stay quiet! (10 mins)

Adventure 2 - Follow Bow, stay together, stay quiet!

Activity

  • As the children enter into Area 2 (The Antique Store) ask them to form a partnership with another team. (like Bow and Woody do with Buzz, Ducky and Bunny). Form equal groups dependent on numbers of participants. 
  • Ask the children in their groups to think about all the movements that Bow and the toys had to make to get to the Cabinet where Forky was? 
  • Ask the children in their teams to make a challenge course using the equipment which they will take their team and their balls through to get to Dragon's room where Forky is. 
  • Once they have made the course they can take their team through the course to the gate to enter area 3 (Dragon's Room).

Coaching points

  • Encourage the children to think about different movements, climbing over things, squeezing through gaps, ducking under things... 
  • Encourage the children to take their balls through the course using their feet, where possible. 
  • The session is differentiated by child choice, however be mindful of the STEP (Space, Task, Equipment, People) theory to adjust the difficulty level ensuring appropriateness of activity.

The Adventure - Beware of Benson and Dangerous Dragon! (10 mins)

Adventure 3 - Beware of Benson and Dangerous Dragon!

Activity

  • Once the teams have been through the Antique Store they wait to enter Dragon's Room (Area 3).
  • The coach will play the role of Dragon the Antique Store cat or a Benson the Dummy, who are on the look out.
  • The children can enter the room and attempt to get themselves and their ball to the safe zone (cabinet) to try to save Forky before being caught by Dragon or Benson (The coach).
  • If a child is caught they must stand still until one of their team touches them to free them (just as Bow saved Woody)
  • Play until all children are in the safe zone (cabinet).

Coaching points

  • Coaches can manage the level of challenge and success relevant to the ability of the group. 
  • You could consider some children being Dragon/Benson Dolls as additional chasers if appropriate to the ability of the group.
  • Encourage the children to keep the ball close to their feet and keep looking up to spot Dragon or Vincent.
  • The session is differentiated by child choice and coach, however be mindful of the STEP (Space, Task, Equipment, People) theory to adjust the difficulty level ensuring appropriateness of activity.

  • Once children have reached the safe zone (cabinet) in their teams they can be asked to reflect on the following:
    • What the story was?
    • What movements they made?
    • What they did with their ball?
    • What did they do when working with their team?  
Cliff-hanger
  • Ask the children what they think happens next in the story?
  • Use the final Adventure 4 Scene card (Duke Caboom) to help the children.
  • Encourage them to use the Adventure Passport with their family.
Dispersal
  • Ensure children stay within the safe zone to be collected by their parent/guardian or nominated individual
