Y Passing (15 mins)

Aim:

  • Passing warm up
  • Reinforce good quality passing & receiving

Organisation:

  • Y shape with cones
  • 5 yards apart (5 yard pass)
  • Players line up in even groups behind the first cone
  • One player on each of the red cones
  • NO players on yellow cones
Method:

  • Cone 1: Player passes to player on cone 2 and follows their pass
  • Cone 2: Player passes to player on cone 3and follows their pass
  • Cone 3: Player dribbles around yellow cone and joins end of queue
Coaching Points:

  • Weight and direction of pass
  • Player waiting needs to pull away from the defender  (cone)
    • Timing of this movement
  • Receive the ball on the back to to play in behind the defender
    • Open body shape
