Technical Passing (15 mins)

Technical passing pattern focusing on body positioning, touch away to switch the point of attack, and progressing the ball to the midfield. Starts away from goal to emphasize the areas where we should be playing with our feet.

GK1 shows for a pass from GK2, GK1 switches the ball to GK3. GK3 plays GK1's feet centrally. GK1 passes to the coach who lays off to either side. GK1 steps towards the ball and provides a firm pass to the minigoal on the side of the layoff.

Next ball starts on GK3's side and the exercise is flipped. GK1 does two full sets on each side.

Second progression only changes the final pass. GK1 should play a diagonal ball to the opposite side of the coach's layoff.

Focus on goalkeeper's movement towards passing angles, quality of first touch, and pace of each pass. Passes should be completed with the inside of the foot and both feet should be used.

Ext. Passing Pattern (15 mins)

Passing pattern incorporating the defensive third and wide areas.

GK1 starts centrally. Movement towards the red marker while GK2 lays the ball off for a one touch pass from GK1 to the mini goal.

GK1 receives a second ball from coach, takes a prep touch, and plays a direct ball in the air for GK3 to control.

GK1 recovers to coach's position and saves a shot in or around their area.

Exercise changes sides and is mirrored before goalkeepers switch positions. Red markers indicate where the resting goalkeepers are to be positioned.

Focus on the quality of movement around the box, make sure each pass is completed before moving onto the next action, and the quality of the first touch before the pass to GK3. The last switch of play is only available with a quality prep touch and proper pace on the flight of the ball. GK should get depth after the last pass and handle the coaches shot.

Defensive 3rd buildup (20 mins)

5+GKv4 build up phase progression. Starts with a goal kick either side. GK1 looks to continuously offer support to the backline and defensive midfielder and switch the field of play. Looking for short, medium, and long range distribution opportunities with an emphasis of leading their targets to mini goals.

Strong side defenders should be encouraged to attack the mini goals and weak side defenders should be encouraged to provide coverage for the strong side.

Blue team should be pressing intensely and looking to regain possession and attack GK1's goal.

If red team scores on mini goal, goal scorer leaves play and coach starts a 4v4 counterattack with blue #10. GK1 organizes back line and if red regains possession, red goalscorer rejoins and they should find the goalkeeper to reset play. Ball is live until out of play.

First team to four goals wins. Three games total. Must win by 2 goals or objective becomes first to 6 goals.

3v3+2 Small Sided (20 mins)

3v3+2 game when in possession.#'s 1 and 2 are free to roam the central boxes. #'s 3 and 4 must stay in their attacking shaded areas and be onside for the initial pass. #9's cannot track back into their defensive halves. Set of balls should be on each post or inside each goal. When red is in possession, blue flank players cannot defend. When blue is in possession, red flank players cannot defend.

GK starts with a pass out wide to their teammate flank player. Opposite Flank player crashed the back post and can enter the opposition 18 yd box. Flank player looks to get to the endline and provide service for attacking players.

Ball stays in play until a goal or out of bounds. Defending Teams can counterattack upon regaining possession. If a goalkeeper holds onto a cross/shot, look to distribute wide or to the centre forward.

If scored on, conceding team must start the ball with the GK and find a flank player quickly to take advantage of transition.

Gk's looking for 2v1's or through balls on goal for attackers. Both teams should focus on attacking the opposition box and defending in transition. Coaching points should focus on quality service from flank players and quality ball movement.

3 games, best of three, first team to 8 goals wins.
