Warm Up

Set up

  • Groups of 8
  • 20x20 square

Drill

  • 1 player from Team 1 & Team 2 stand on the starting cone
  • As shown above the rest of the team players stand behind there teams cone waiting for there turn (it's set back from the square to allow players to sprint around the cone comfortably with accidents)
  • Players have to sprint with the ball to the next cone as quick as they can without losing control
  • When they reach the next cone with the ball they stop the ball dead and then sprint all the way round the square until they get back to their team and tag a team-mate gently
  • He would sprint to the ball, dribble under control to next cone stop it dead and then sprint all the way around the square and tag his/her team-mate. 
  • The cycle continues until all team-mates have gone and all players are sitting behind their team cone (waiting cone)

Progression

  • Make it a competition/race (first team to have all the players back sitting behind the starting cone wins)  

Coaching Points

  • Lift head when dribbling (see ball and what's ahead)
  • Controlled big  first touch to get to you target cone faster
  • Smaller touches when you approach the cone so you can stop the ball dead quicker

Technical 1

Set Up

  • 4 teams
  • Mannequins and poles to be used as obstacles
  • 1 ball per player

Drill

  • Players dribble towards the mannequin and perform a skill to move to the left
  • They then dribble towards the right hand side of the next mannequin
  • After passing the second mannequin the players dribble towards the left of the final mannequin, before turning for goal and shooting

Progression

  • Make it a competition , some players might have to go twice if un even teams , first team to have all the players back sitting down wins

Technical 2 (20 mins)

Set Up

  • Working in pairs
  • 1 ball between 2
  • Mannequins, poles or cones to be placed in the middle

Drill

  • Player 1 attacks the mannequin and uses a Skill Move before driving towards the far cone
  • Once they reach the far cone, they execute a turn to get away from their opponent
  • They now dribble back to the mannequin before performing a turn and passing the ball to their partner
  • They now sprint back to their starting position

Technical 3 (15 mins)

Set Up

  • Teams of 4
  • Cones placed in the middle
  • 1 ball each

Drill

  • Dribble with your ball to your teams colour of cones in centre of pitch
  • Stop the ball dead and pick up the cone (sauce) 
  • Dribble to the end zone, stop the ball dead and place your cone on top of the ball (cone)
  • Sprint back to your team and tag the next player to go
  • Sit down when complete

Technical 4 (15 mins)

Set Up

  • 4 mini goals
  • 5x5 square
  • A team at either end
  • 1 ball per player
Drill

  • First player goes and dribbles at speed to the middle square
  • Encourage the players to perform a skill move and then touch away from the square
  • When The players comes out of the square they must decide which goal to dribble towards (big touches) & then get their shot away
  • After player gets his/her shot away, the opposite team can go and the player that just got their shot off must make a recovery run back to their starting position
  • Continue until everyone has had a turn

Small Sided Game (15 mins)

Normal game rules apply

Rotate teams every 5 minutes

Goal Kick (In possession)
  • 2 midfielders split and position themselves out wide
  • Defender takes a central position
  • Striker positions themselves high up the pitch
  • Keepers must position the ball centrally and on the edge of the area
  • They must also wait until the opposition have fully retreated to the halfway line
  • Goalkeepers plays into one of the midfielders
  • Important that the midfielders are on the half turn and can see 3 corners of the pitch when receiving the ball
  • They are encouraged to receive the ball on their back foot
  • The player then looks to move into the space out wide, or look for a pass up to the striker
  • The striker will have started in a central position, but will move to the side of the ball and create an option for the midfielder to pass to
  • The opposite midfielder immediately tucks inside if they did not receive the ball
Goal Kick (Out of possession)
  • Midfielders and striker, spread out across the halfway and look to press as soon as the goal kick has been taken
  • The player nearest to the ball is the one that applies the pressure on the receiving midfielder
  • Defender sits centrally and a little deeper than the rest of the team
  • How quickly can the defending team win the ball back
