Skill Phase - Emergency Defending
The Blue players passes the ball to the Red Player
The Red player will then look to shoot into goal A
Blue needs to react after his pass to defend the goal and block the shot
Once the shot is blocked, the Red player then immediately shoots a new ball at goal B
5 attempts each then swap positions
Set up multiple stations for the amount of players you have

- Quick reaction after pass to block the goal
- Block shot with your leading leg
- Powerful clearance away from the goal
- Stay on your toes and be ready

- Accuracy and power of shot to provide quality reps for the defender

4 v 2 into 1v1 / 2v1 (Breakout)
Blues try to keep the ball from reds
If a red wins the ball then breakout into a 1v1 vs the Yellow defender
If the Blues are keeping the ball after 10 passes then one blue attacks the yellow defender in a 1v1
Rotate players
GK can be used or a mini goal
Progression:
2 attackers can go into the breakout game to make it a 2v1 overload for the defender.
Coaching points
- Defender (1v1) show them on their weak side / force them away from goal
- Slow the attacker down
- Force a technical error from the attacker
- Don't dive in (Protect your goal)
- Reds in 4v2 put pressure on blues, don't stop pressing

2 minute games
Offside active, normal rules
Defenders need to protect the goal
If defenders win the ball back they can score in the small goals
2 sets of 3 defenders can be used and rotated

- Protect the goal at all costs (no foul)
- Stay compact
- Force attacks away from goal or negative
- Constant communication

Final Phase of the session.
Players play a 6v6 game with the same rules as the initial play phase. This time with a larger field and greater distance to defend against vs more numbers.
Coaching Points
- Stay compact
- Block the shot / goal.
- Don't drop too deep!!!
- Challenge a team - 1 half of playing a player down so they are constantly facing an overload situation.

Key Words
Players play a 3v3 game. To incorporate the emergency defending if you miss the goal with a shot you are required to chase the ball and complete a skill/technique behind the goal of the coaches' choice. Whilst this is being completed the team with a player less, must complete emergency defending a player down for a long time.
