* The session starts from the GK who distributes the ball to a wide player on his team in oppositions half. GK's are limited to 2 second possession to encourage quick play.
* Each wide player must stay in there own crossing box and they are limited to 2 touch max to encourage early delivery.
* Wide players can pass to each other to change angle of delivery.
* Main objective is for the 3 strikers to make runs to try and score against the 2 defenders with an emphasis on the TYPE of runs & the who/when/where/why and how to create goal scoring opportunities.
* The 2 CM floaters are there to pick up pieces and are limited to one touch to either shoot on rebounds in either goal or play the ball into a wide player to continue play.
* If the 2 defenders win the ball & gain possession then they can play to a wide player to start next attack.
**In order to create an element of chaos and for realism this session has to be played at a high intensity with an emphasis on the triggers for strikers to make runs.
Main Objective
* My main coaching points will be aimed at the 3 strikers on each team with an emphasis on.
- timing of runs
- movement to create space

Problem
Defenders are finding it too easy to block runs from forwards as the cross is delivered due to the timing and the fact that the run is made with a single movement.
Solutions:
1/ encourage the strikers to use a double movement to create space in the box. The defenders can not watch the ball and the man at the same time so highlight that the trigger to make 2nd movement is when defender scans for ball. This will allow striker to find a yard of space and be more difficult to mark as he takes the defender under the ball with his 1st movement.
2/ strikers can be numbered 1/2/3 with number 1 making near post run > 2 making central run between 2 defenders > 3 pulling off last defender/back post. The trigger for the run is when the wide players head goes down just before delivery.
**it is important that the strikers are not static in the box as the ball is delivered so they need to anticipate the type/pace/angle of delivery so they arrive same time as cross.

Organisation
In the 11v11 game both teams will be playing a 4-4-2 formation.
* I will coach the red team who are playing 2-4-2 + GK with the yellow team playing a 4-2-1 + GK.
*Pitch size: half pitch with 2 full size goals > full width with pitch split into defensive 1/3 = 20 yds & attacking 2/3rds = 40 yds > 2 channels marked out from side of 18 yd box to touch line in attacking 2/3rds > CM zone is similar to zone14 width of 18 yd box & from edge 18 yd box to 40 yd line (22x44)
*All areas are marked out with small flat markers
*20 balls with Red team GK who is trigger to start play
Time: 5 x 4 mins with 2 min recovery to collect balls and deliver coaching points (total 30 mins)
Set up:
* Play always starts from red GK who passes to a defender who is 2v1 in defensive 1/3
* 2v2 in zone 14 with 2 touch limitation
* 1 red wide player in each channel with 4v2 in 18 yd box
Objectives:
Red Team to try and score after playing out from the back 2 v 1 and linking play through zone 14 2v2 before targeting wide players in channels for early delivery for 4 attacking players
Yellow team to defend cross and on transition try and score within 8 second limitation
Conditions:
* Only 1 of the red defenders can leave the defensive 1/3 to either create 3v2 in CM zone or to double up in channels to support or overlap wide player to deliver cross.
* The 4 yellow defenders must stay in 18 yd box with the FB's encouraged to press down the line of the ball to try and stop crosses
* There is a 3 touch limitation once the ball enters the channels to encourage early crosses and realism to the session.
* opposite wide man can enter the box to make back post and CM player can make the box to make up 4 players attacking the cross with remaining wide player screening the edge of the box.
* As a progression you can allow the red team GK to play direct to wide player or CM player for bounce pass for supporting defender to play out.
* On transition the yellow team can break with all players allowed to play open with unlimited touches although an 8 second limitation applies.
Coaching style: Guided discovery
keypoint:
encourage wide players to change type of delivery depending on position on pitch ie touch line is a stand at back stick or a pull back & closer to edge of 18 = whipped delivery between GK & penalty spot. This will help the strikers to time there runs and ANTICIPATE type and pace of delivery.

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Problem:
Red team attacks are breaking down because the 4 attacking players runs are too flat when the cross comes in especially when ball is delivered from closer to the touch line.
Solution:
1/ Encourage CM player to make run towards goal to drag in defender and then pull out towards penalty spot for pull back.
2/ Coach opposite wide player to delay his run until he sees flight of ball and this will prevent him coming under the ball and allow him to attack cross at back post from a higher and wider position.
Keypoint:
* It is vital that wide players and strikers work on triggers to develop an understanding of the type/angle & pace of of the delivery.
* Encourage attacking players to anticipate zone to attack and not to be static in the box.
* straight line single movements are easy to defend against so highlight importance of a double movement to pull or drag defenders out of position to create space to attack cross.
