Y-Sprint into 1v1 Dribbling

Work in twos. Face opponent inside channel with ball between. Take turns to be the trigger player.

When trigger player turns the players sprint in a Y-shape to the three cones at the back of their channel.

The first player to the ball attacks their opponent's end-line. If they can stop the ball inside the triangular area they earn a point. If the defender wins the ball they can attack the other end.

Once the ball goes out of play the next pair of players take up the start position and play.

Keep to around 2:1 work/rest ratio and have enough pitches set-up so that there are no more than 2 pairs on a pitch.

Progression

Move to a 2v2.

Change the start position so that 1 player is making a recovery run.

Change the start postion so that players must turn with the ball to attack.

High Intensity Counter Attack Game

Start Point is 4 against 2 counter-attack from midfield third with 2 additional defenders making recovery runs from the end-line.

2 resting players go in goal and remainder wait on sidelines.

If attacking team score they stay on and play against a different set of defenders.

If defending team wins the ball they can attack the goal at the opposite end to stay on.

If the ball goes out of play or the goalkeeper holds the ball, swap both teams and have the team with the lowest goal tally attack.

Quality of repetitions is important. In this practice we are intentionally giving players time on the sidelines to recover so that they can perform at a high intensity every time they are in play.

Encourage game speed throughout and ask players to reset and find positions as quickly as possible.
