Warm-up (15 mins)

Organization:

- Set a 30x40m area (Adjust accordingly with number of players).

- Organize the equipment appropriately and efficiently.

- Assure every player has a ball.

Protocol:

- Players run with the ball. Assure they are NOT dribbling. (Larger touches and running at full speed while changing direction quickly.)

- Set a 1min timer and see how many gates the players can get through.

Progressions:

Once the coach feels that the players are accomplishing Running with the ball, then it is time to try and implement some Conditions/Challenges and Targets.

Conditions

- Players must be in their running stride, moving as quickly as possible.

Challenges

- Try and get from one gate to another in less than 3 touches. But the player must keep in control of the ball.

Targets

- Can players try and increase their score in the 1min timer. Also if players can get from one gate to another in 2 touches, that will count as an extra point.

Other possible progressions

- Set a 15sec period during the 1min, that every single ball is a 'mega ball' this meaning that every single gate players run through is worth 5!

- When the coach blows his twice, all players must go and replace their ball with another ball that is outside of the square.

Coaching Points Reminders

- Assure players run with the ball. Reinforce key technical points; (Strong first touch, get into their running stride, contact the ball with their laces and move quickly).

- Players need to be looking where to go, assure players are getting the technique before the speed.

- Try and give reminders of famous soccer players that are known for running with the ball, such as; (Bale, Mbappe, and Ronaldo)

Part 1 (15 mins)

Organization:

- Keeping the same sized area.

- Setting the equipment as seen on the diagram.

- Maintain a positive coaching position to see the whole practice.

Protocol:

- Players will run through one side of the 'Channel' until the furthest cones and pass the ball across to their teamate.

- To start, assure players are acccomplishing the technique first before trying to achieve speed.

Progressions:

Conditions

- Players first touch of the ball must reach the first gate.

Challenges

- Can players get the ball from one side to another without making it stop.

Targets

- The coach can set individual targets to players. Such as getting across to the other side in 4 touches or less. This can be dependent on the players ability.

Other possible progressions

- Coaches could implement a point competiton. When each player gets to the other side, their team gets the point. Try and reinforce the key mechanics, and then the speed will come.

- Once the players are understanding and accomplishing the challenges. Making players change direction by going straight then quickly diagonal is an option.

- One side is the attacking team and the other is the defending team.

- The attacking side starts with the ball. They dictate when to start. By taking a first touch out of their feet, they try and drive forward towards the goal to score.

Other possible progressions

- The balls could start to with the defenders and they pass it across to the attackers. This will emphasize a recovery for the defenders but also emphasize the attackers first touch of the ball.

- The coach could decide to move where the players are located around the area. This will change the type of run for defenders and change the areas the attacking team will run with the ball.

Coaching Points Reminders:

- Assure that attackers try and get their first touch out of their feet and move as quickly as possible.
