Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): FAW/UEFA A Team Training 8 - Pressing in a 4-4-2 Diamond

Block 1 (5 mins)

Reds (Coaching) 4-4-2 Diamond without FB's

Blue 4-3-3 without wingers 

3x6 mins blocks - 90 second intervals

Blue striker must stay in the opposition half

• Blue Team Build up from the back.
• 3/4 Pitch

 

Blue team : Ball starts from the blue GK, as they look to build up successfully over the half way line and score against the opposition keeper.

Red team: Look to win possession back & score within 10 seconds.

Frame session on board with both, send opposition to set up - red team have detail on tactic board.

In Possession: Ball speed, Play forward when possible, Switch play.  

 

Defensive Transition: Counter press or delay and retreat

Problem 1 - Ball is being played into the opposition FB

Solution - Wide midfielder start wider anticipating the pass. Get there early and show the player down the line. 

Two strikers to stay high and prevent the ball back to the CB's

Red 10 stays goal side and tight to the CDM

Red CDM comes across onto the nearside CM.

Other CM stays inside but close to the CM

RCB anticipating the ball into the striker and ready to with.

LCB anticipating the ball down the line, down the line so body open

Leave the far man

Block 3 (5 mins)

Problem

The Blue team have dropped and stretch the red team out of shape. They have then been able to play over the top into the 9

Solution

There is a 2v1 at the back. One CB to be slightly in front stopping the ball into feet, the other slightly behind defending the space in behind

What if the ball is played into the 9 and he plays the winger?

The nearest CB will need to press the ball if the blue player is beyond the midfield players. Delay if possible

LCB to stay tight to the 9, but also keeping an eye on the blue RCM if he breaks free

CDM straight line recovery in a to affect the 9, LCM and RCM

LCM to try and get goalside and inside the opposition RCM

RCM to get goal side of the blue LCM, potentially going to double up on the blue LB if there is a defensive balance

10 to drop on the blue LCM if the RCM goes to the blue LB and one of the strikers drop onto the blue CDM
