Animation 1
Description: This is a drill focusing on finishing but also a fake shot technique. For me, its one of the best moves for an attacker. Blue will check away from the cone, red passes the ball, blue dribbles towards the cone closest to the goal, at this point blue fakes a shot and cuts back (wraps foot around the ball and stops it), blue dribbles back to starting cone and plays a pass back to red, blue opens up again, red plays a pass back, blue takes a touch down the line and finishes.
# of players: 1-3. The other side could be set up so 2 people are working at once.
Coaching Points: Breaking down a fake shot... As a goalkeeper, I teach our goalkeepers to look out for "shooting cues". I break it down into 3 cues, though there may be more. When players shoot, they generally 1. Glance up at the goal before shooting 2. Raise their arm out for balance (as shown in the video) 3. Take a big step with plant foot and bring their shooting leg far back (as shown in video). When working on a fake shot, the players should be doing these things to sell it. Mbappe and Bellingham are both great at this. Additionally, when they are changing direction, they should maintain control of the ball the whole time. When cutting back, the ball should be no more than a foot, at most, away from their foot (ideally it should be glued to it). Lastly, this will be up to yall, but I like these shots to be driven from this angle.
Progressions: I have never done any progressions with this one. You could add a bounce pass in though on the first pass. Additionally, right before their actual shot you could add in another fake shot and this time they take a touch inside and shoot.
