SET UP: 3/4 pitch, 2 teams (9v9) pitch zoned into 3 across the way with a dividing line down the middle up the way. 3-3-2 v 3-3-2
PROCEDURE: Can only be a 2v2 in each grid.
PROGRESSION: Attacking team can have an extra player in the zone (3v2).
COACHING POINTS: Awareness of 2v2, movement, defensive principles & communication.

PROCEDURE: 'Name on pass' Players with possession must shout the players name before passing/next player recieving (this helps trigger the 2nd defender).
PROGRESSION: Free play (no coaching).

DRILL (20 mins)
SET UP: Half pitch, 2 groups; attackers placed at the half way and bibbed up in to two different colours, defenders at the goal line.
PROCEDURE: Goalkeeper distributes the ball (throw/kick) out to one of the defenders who then plays up to on of the attackers. which ever attacker recieves the ball, 2nd attacker of the same bib colour joins the attack. As soon as the ball is heading to the attacker the 1st defender must close down instantly with the 2nd defender reacting quickly to give support and cover (2v2). *If the defender wins possession of the ball they can attack the two target goals.
PROGRESSION: A recovering wide attacker runs around the mannequine to join the attack (3v2).
COACHING POINTS: Positioning of the 2nd defender, defensive principles, awareness and communication.
