Organisation:
Area - 50 x 70
Equipment - 12 Balls, 12 White Cones, 2 Large Goal, Vests: 8 Blue, 8 Red, 1 Yellow, 1 Green
Players - 18 Players (9 v 9)
Blue Team:1-2-3-1 No 9, No 10, RM, LM, 2 CDMs, 2 CBs, GK.
Red Team: 1-4-2-2 GK, RB, 2 x CB, LB. 2 CMs, 2 STs.
Geography/Realism – Just over half of the pitch. Allowing for key players to be involved with realistic distances. Pitch Chamfered off (No FB's for Reds, No wingers for Blues).
Challenges:
Scoring:
Blues must win ball from Reds, if won within 6 seconds its worth 1 point, to score a goal is worth another point. The Reds must retain possession playing out from the back and try to score within 8 seconds (increase challenge to blues by giving double points to reds if they score within 8 seconds).
Trigger for Blues to press: when GK plays ball out, the No 9 reads body language and direction of GK to decide on the CB they have to press (E.g. If the GK passes to the RCB, then the No9 presses the RCB). The No 9 must shut off the option to pass back to the GK, thus forcing a pass to RB.
As the 9 does this, the No10 must run to shut of the passing lane for the opposing CB, whilst retaining depth to support midfield behind.
The RM or LM must get into a position to deny FB's in case the CB is able to pass to them, retain depth to avoid getting beat in behind, whilst close enugh to intercept the ball. The Blue CDMs must be positioned on outside shoulder of the Red CM closest to the ball.
Blue CB's position and distance realistic, do not get caught out can Blue CB intercept ball?
Considerations for the Bules, the intensity of the press, depth, distances between units / oppositing players. If ball is won, can the RM or LM underlap or overlap the ST in possession. Clear communication, support behind the play, retain shape out of possession.
Coaching Points - Who, What, When, Where, Why and what if:
What if the FB's tuck in to receive a pass from the GK. What if the Red CB turns and beats the ST on the turn. How player rotation ensures support behind and in front of play, consider individual & the unit, distances, line of sight, on, off and around the ball. When should a player drop off? If a player decides to carry the ball forward another player can drop off to support. Why? It provides cover behind if possession is lost. When should a player move into space? When an opportunity opens up, the player should look to receive the ball in that area.
What if the opposing FB is able to get the ball out wide, is it better to show inside to the congested central midfield.
Via: Coaching process. Guided Discovery, Q & A. Empower players to develop learning. Demonstrations, recreate scenarios, practice (if needed)
Coach individual and unit, on, off and around the ball.
Defending key points: Speed of press, Distance of support, narrow shape, support behind the play, rotation. If ball is lost, can the players win the ball with ease, prevent presenting the opposition any opportunities to attack.
Attacking key points: Movement off the ball to receive the ball and support off and around the ball, angles, distances, quality of first touch, detail of pass, body position, strongest foot to receive the ball, width and depth, decision making.
15-18 minutes: Begin play from Red's, play end to end. Same points system. Guided discovery.
18-21 minutes: Q&A indiviual players on the best options.
21-24 minutes: Introduce triple points for blues winning the ball within 6 seconds, and scoring goal within 6 seconds in attackin third.
24-29 minutes: Allow session to flow, observe whether transfer of learning has taken place. consider scenario to engage players (Newcastle v Swansea its 1-1, 4 minutes of stoppage time, can either side change result from draw to a win?).
29-30 minutes: Debrief.

Objectives:
To Press and defend from the front in a 2-3-1.
11 A Side: 4-2-3-1 v 4-4-2
Organisation:
Area - 50 x 70
Equipment - 12 Balls, 6 Red Cones (Ball Nest situated behind the feeder/target player), 4 Yellow and 4 red flat markers, 1 Large Goal, 6 Blue Bibs, 6 Red Bibs, 1 Yellow Bib (Opposition Keeper), 1 Green Bib (Feeder/Target).
Players - 14 Players (6 v 7+ Feeder); 2-3-1 v 1-4-2.
Blue Team: No 9, No 10, RM, LM, 2 CDM's
Red Team: GK, RB, 2 x CB, LB, 2 CM's
Geography/Realism – Pressing from the front, using full width.
Challenges:
Scoring System - The Blues need to win possession, worth 1 point, then 6 seconds to score, worth another point.
The Reds must retain possession playing out from the back and successfully pass to the green target player. (Conditions - Reds GK cannot play directly to Target player)
Trigger for Blues to press - When GK has the ball from feeder and is about to pass to outfield player.
Movement - the No 9 must observe body position and language of GK and his direction faced to decide on which CB to press (E.g. If the GK passes to the RCB, then the No9 presses the RCB receiving the ball). The No 9 must consider what the CBs intentions are (judgement of body shape, 'open', is it on favoured foot) then press with high intensity, shutting the option of a return pass to GK. As the No9 does this, the No10 must run to shut of the passing lane for the opposing CB, in this case the LCB. Thus, forcing the RCB to pass back to RB.
The RM or LM must get into a position to close off the FB's incase (IF) the CBs are able to pass to them. Considerations for the Blues, the intensity of press, distances between units / opposing players, body shape (low). If ball is won, can the RM or LM underlap or overlap the ST.
Coaching Points - Who, What, When, Where, Why, How and what if:
What if the FB's tuck in to receive a pass from the GK. What if the CB beats ST on the turn. How can player rotation ensure support in behind as well as in front. consider the individual and the unit, coaching distances, line of sight, on, off and around the ball. When should a player drop off? If a player decides to carry the ball forward another player can drop off to support. Why? It provides cover behind if possession is lost. When should a player move into space? When an opportunity opens up, the player should move to receive the ball in space.

Coach individual and unit, on, off and around the ball.
Defending key points: Speed of press, body shape, angle of run, Distance of support, narrow shape, support behind the play, rotation. If ball is lost, can the players recover ball, prevent the opposition any opportunities to attack.
Attacking key points: Movement off the ball to receive, support play, angles, distances, quality of touch, detail of pass, body position, strongest foot to receive the ball, width and depth, decision making. Rotation of players.
Time Line
0-2 minutes: The play will begin with the red side receiving the long ball from feeder (mimicking miscued pass). Repetition of press from blues, to improve player understanding of nit support, opportunities to observe player knowledge. Q&A.
2-4 minutes: Guide players through best options. Coaching process. Use of imagery for Blue's CB's, ask them to visualise how they would position themselves to cope with 2 Strikers. Consider inside/ouside shoulder for support to unit.
4-7 minutes: Assistant/Cue encourage Reds' challenge towards Blues, Blues discuss what if's.
7-10 minutes: points introduced, Blues 1 point for winning ball, 1 point for scoring goal. Reds 1 point for
12-15 minutes: Transition to SSG.
