Drill 1.0 (5 mins)

Using a half pitch the drill begins with a combination pattern. Player 1/A passes to the centre midfielder (2/B) who dribbles towards the striker (3/C) and passes inside for the stiker to run onto the ball and shoot outside/inside the box.

Rotation: 1-2-3/A-B-C

Coaching points:

- Check runs (pull defender away to create space behind/inside of them)

- Weight of pass (accuracy and speed)

- First touch (set up pass/shot)

- Shooting techniques (head over the ball, firm ankle use of different part of foot)

To progress this exercise we now look for a 1-2 pass between the centre mid (2/B) and the striker (3/C).

Next progression is the Centre mid (2/B) bounces the pass back to the 1st player (1/A) who plays the ball forward to the striker (3/C) who plays a 1-2 with the Centre Mid (2/B).

Drill 1.3 (10 mins)

This progression now adds pressure to the enviroment with active defenders that replace the mannequinns in a 4v3 situation. It is now up to the attackers to form a combination play with the aim of finishing. The squad is divided into two groups; attackers & defenders. After 5 mins swap groups so both get to practice both attacking and defending concepts.

*If the defenders win the ball they can attack any of the two wide goals.

Rotation: Attackers 1-2-3-4 Defenders A-B-C-D

Progression: Add a recovering defender (A) to create a 4v4 and put attackers under pressure from behind.

Coaching Points:

- Movement (create space)

- Physicality (protection of the ball)

- Type of pass (to feet, through ball to run onto)

- Decision making (dribble/pass/shoot)

Conditioned Game (20 mins)

8v8 game 3-1-3 Vs. 2-2-3 (to help create overloads). Teams can only score in the strike zones (shadded area). This is to help develop combination plays to build up & into the strike zone.

Coaching points:

- Movement (create spaces/openings)

- Build up play (look to go forward as much as possible)

- Finishing (look to shoot when opportunity arises)
