Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): U9 - Passing - Inside
Description
What:
- Passing and Receiving using the inside push pass to a teammate
Where:
- Any Area of the field - specifically the middle third
Who:
- First attacker passes to second attacker while first defender is trying to steal the ball
When:
- First attacker passes to second attacker to avoid losing the ball from the defender applying pressure
- Second or third attacker is open and in a better position to advance the attack closer to opponents goal
- In order to move the ball to another area of the field to create an opportunity to score
Why:
- When the defender is applying pressure and attacker is unable to dribble but can recognize a teammate that is in a better position in order to not lose possession of the ball
- Advance the play or pass back to avoid losing the ball to a defender

Mario Kart - 15mins
Organization:
- 30x40 Grid
- 10-15) 2 yard gates set throughout the grid, Use different colors for gates
- Players in pairs, 1 ball each
Instructions:
- Players are racers and are dribbling around their ball(Driving their car).
- Racers are trying to dribble to a gate. Once they reach a gate, teams pass ball 3 times before moving to another gate.
- 3 Passes is 1 point(Checkpoint)
- Racers keep track of how many checkpoints they can get.
- Racers cannot keep using the same gate and must try and get through all of the gates
Coaching Points/Questions:
- Can we use the inside push pass?
- Heads up to find open gates
- Accelerate away from gate
- Communication with teammate
Regressions/Progressions:
- P- Now players must go through a different color gate each time
- P- Add Bowser and Donkey Kong (Defenders) trying to steal the ball from the other drivers

PinBall - 10mins
Organization:
- Divide two fields 15x20
- cones for end zones 2 per field
Instructions:
- 2 Teams of 2v2s (Blue vs. Red)
- 1 neutral player in each end zone (Black)
- 1 Neutral player pass 1 ball in at a time to either Blue team or Red team
- Blue and Red team get points for every pass they make to their teammates including the Neutral player
- For every pass completed they get 1pt. If they pass to a Neutral and receive a pass back team is able to score now.
- Only player inside the shaded area is the neutral
- Play for 2 mins then rotate and switch teams
- 1st team to 2 goals win or 6 passes completed
Coaching Points/Questions:
- Can we use the Inside push pass
- Can we pass where you think they are going to be, not where they currently are (if they are moving)
- Should we be close to our teammate with the ball or spread out?
- Can we find open space to ask for a pass?
- Communicate with our teammates so we can receive the ball
Regressions/Progressions:
- R-3v2s (Remove Neutrals)
- P- 3v3s Proceed to Small-Sided Matches

- 4-6 teams (3v3s or 4v4s)
Instructions:
- Free Play
