Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):
11v10 Match prep session,
Working with red team and we are set up in our build up structure 3-4-4,
Objective is to get the ball, through a pass, to our front 2/3/4 who are zoned off outside of the zoned off pitch that we play with 7 offensive players, to then score into one of the three mini goals. The reds can score into the mini goals from anywhere on the pitch, to stop the blue team defending the goals from deep positions.
Red team are fixed in position but only after the ball is played from the goalkeeper, the blues are the same. Reds can't go into the zoned off area and the blues can't recover in.
80x45m with the corners cut off, 30m zoned off area,
MD-3 due to distance covered and potential for HSD,
3x5 minutes with 90 second rest in between for coaching points through example and Q+A, and to make tactical adjustments,
Problems and Solutions;
Can't attract pressure enough to progress?
Use really short passes and/or foot on the ball to attract pressure, keep the distances short enough the find where the pressure has come from.
Cant escape man to man pressure in the build up?
Go direct, use the physicality and quality of the front players and the space in between their front and back of the team to our advantage. Make sure the back of our team gets up the pitch once it goes direct, use prompts to pre-empt this.
Getting caught in the back corners of the pitch?
Even with the pitch corners cut off, we can still get caught in the corners. Make the players understand that this might be happening because we have reduced the space there. Even so, we can push the fullbacks narrower to be inside the box, to therefore make it more difficult for the opposition to press and trap us.
