This practice is designed to develop the in possession and its team's ability to build out from the back using switches of play to bypass an organised press. With a back four and midfield three, the in possession team must recognise escape the press and use wide channels and the goalkeeper to circulate possession effectively. The aim is to create space and to move the opposition so that they can exploit on the far side to progress and score. Defensively, the out of possession team applies coordinated pressure to force mistakes or regain and counter quickly.
