Football/Soccer Session (Advanced): Set Pieces - Overview
Description
Overview of structure in set pieces for game day.
Situational considerations - pressure, numbers of players, player rotation, success/failure. We will improvise and adapt in game when these arise.

3 Rules -
- Do not give away possession in the first phase
- Throw in within 5 seconds when possible.
- The throwing player must enter the field immediately to provide overload.
- C provides depth, link up with thrower
- A & B create equal and opposite movements to create space and get on the ball.
- D provide depth in the game to go forward. (5 second rule to go in behind)

Green - Create a new phase of build up, pass should be less than 20 years.
Yellow - Can we play quick or short to create an attack? Can we deliver a cross of penetrative pass to create a goal-scoring opportunity?
Red - Direct to goal. Show us some magic!
Yellow and Red - Anticipate the rebounds and be ruthless!

Key Notes :
- #7/11 runs direct back and then across behind the pressing player (#2)
- #10 play inverse pass to #11/7, or open inside to create goal-scoring opportunity
- #2/3 provide balance and cover defensively
- #4/5 direct runs forward between posts, must get inside the scoring zone between PK spot and 6 yard box
- #9's front and back post aggressive runs to attack ball
- #7 begin inside, pull out to beyond the back post for longer cross or defensive clearances.
- #6 start deeper, progress to edge of the D for creation of goal-scoring opportunities and countermeasures

Zones :
- Red - Avoid direct delivery (scrap for 2nd ball)
- Yellow - Likely playing of 2nd ball or tight angles
- Green - Target areas, ball will get contested for 2nd balls
Key Notes :
- #10 start inside channel, move central channel to PK spot
- #2/3 provide balance and cover defensively
- #4/5 direct runs forward between posts, must get inside the scoring zone between PK spot and 6 yard box
- #9's front and back post aggressive runs to attack ball
- #7 begin inside, pull out to beyond the back post for longer cross or defensive clearances.
- #6 start deeper, progress to edge of the D for creation of goal-scoring opportunities and countermeasures
- #11/7 (corner taker) quickly adjust to corner of the box for 2nd balls and countermeasures

Key Notes :
- #6 on the ball plays #10 when run is made, then moves to create angle for goal-scoring opportunity
- #10 aggressive run in front of wall to receive and dribble or play 1 touch back to #6
- #2 Create 3v1 if #10 receives under pressure, then move inside for countermeasure
- #11 peel off and back to PK dot
- #9's, #5 attack central channel inside the posts
- #7 later run to back post, anticipate 2nd ball

Key Notes :

- A - Must stay in this zone. Must be the best in the air.
- B - Covers front post until clear. Goes to pressure if short corner is taken.
- C - Must challenge high and deep balls and collaborate with #1.
