Football/Soccer Session (Difficult): 3rd DEFENDER

Session foucuses on the 3rd defender who is to give support, cover and balance in defensive situations.

GAME RELATED PRACTICE (20 mins)
SET UP: 3/4 pitch 18 players 9v9 (1-4-4 Vs. 1-2-4-2)
PROCEDURE: Attack always starts from the top (bibs) . Defending team score a point by getting the ball back to the opponents keeper.
PROGRESSION: Defending team can now look to attack their opponents goal.
COACHING POINTS: Move accoss to cover and support, tracking runs, communication, also watch both defending lines (is their a big gap, are close enough, are they both pushing forward?)

CONDITIONED GAME (20 mins)
SET UP: 3/4 pitch 18 players 9v9 (1-3-4-1 Vs. 1-3-4-1)
PROCEDURE: 2 touch football
PROGRESSION: Free play (unlimited touches)
COACHING POINTS: Move accoss to cover and support, tracking runs, communication.

DRILL (20 mins)
SET UP: 10x20 yrds 6 players 3v3
PROCEDURE: Goalkeepers outside alternate with serving the ball into play. They pass the ball to the 1st attacker who can drive forward or play the ball early to one of the wide attackers. As soon as the goalkeeper has served the ball 3 players from the defending team come out. Game is over once a goal is scored or the ball is out of play.
PROGRESSION: Recovering attacker making an overload 4v3 (attacker must run around one of the goalkeepers and be onside to receive the ball).
COACHING POINTS: Balance, recorvy runs, tracking forward runs, communication.
