Description

Description: This one will be a bit difficult to explain. Red dribbles to the white cone normally, then starts shuffling laterally while carrying the ball with them on their back leg. Think of a winger on the touch line getting ready to dribble past a defender in front of them. The player will then do a scissor with their dribbling leg and push the ball to the opposite red cone.

Number of players: 1-5. Each person should have their own set of cones

Coaching points: Making sure they set themselves up properly with the lateral movement. Their hips should be facing the imaginary defender then they should do a move and burn them down the line

Progressions: Add a sole roll before the move. This is a trademark for wingers. A move wont be as good if the ball isnt moving quickly. Another progression could be that they fake like they are going to go to the opposite red cone with a scissor and then cut back and go back the direction they came from. There are plenty of skill moves we could practice from this position.

Mindset: In our first drill, we are working on beating a defender. If we cut back with the ball, like mentioned in the progressions, think of that as keeping possession. That could work especially well for Center midfielders. This drill can be used for beating defenders, but it also can be used for working as a pivot and always keeping control of the ball. Using feints and skill moves, both are possible.
