Ryan Giggs - Ball Skills (5 mins)

'Giggs' - Drag Back (Diagonally Challenged)

The Move 

Fake to Shoot or pass but instead drag the ball back with the sole of the foot. Now push the ball off in a different direction with the inside or outside of the same foot.

Coaching Points

This skill is a foundation building block towards basic fundamentals of ball control. The second part of the manouver instills the "receiving the ball on the back foot" and opening up the body for open play

This skill is a diagonally challened manoeuvre

Each cone is a defender, don't let the 'defender' touch the ball

Focus on good control of the ball to stop, drag back and open the pass getting the ball out of the players feet.

Close control and weight of pass

Finish the drill either with a good pass to a team mate or quickly move to the next skill keeping good ball control

Progression

Make it competitive, time the players and challenge them to improve on their individual best
