Specific - Switching Play

Organisation:

  • 70m x 50m with tapers at the 'attacking’ start
  • 8 Attackers vs 8 Defenders (incl GK)
  • Assistant Coach organises defensive (Red) team

(A) Aim:

  • Understand when and how to switch the play - long pass or via midfield player

(B) Behaviour:

  • Move the ball quickly
  • Accuracy of long or short passes
  • Create attacking opportunities in wide areas

(C) Condition:

  • Blue (Attacking) must keep 2 men in wide areas at all times; Red (Defending) can go in any zone
  • Blue must enter 2 wide areas before scoring (3 points) or score centrally (1 point)
  • Red score in 2 small goals via a counter attack (3points)

(D) Distribution:

  • Coach plays to any Blue attacker to commence the play

(Synchronised) Key terminology:

  • Is the Long Pass on?
  • Go via Midfield

  • 9 Attackers (incl GK) vs 8 Defenders (incl GK)
  • Assistant Coach organises defensive (Red) team

(A) Aim:

  • Understand when and how to switch the play - long pass or via midfield player

(B) Behaviour:

  • Move the ball quickly
  • Accuracy of long or short passes
  • Create attacking opportunities in wide areas

(C) Condition:

  • Red lines only left for guidance - not in play - all players can move anywhere
  • Blue must enter 2 wide areas before scoring (3 points) or score centrally (1 point)
  • Red score in goal (1 point)

(D) Distribution:

  • From Goalkeepers
