Player Positions

Shown with the black team, here are how the positions are laid out (4-3-3). We are excluding the right side for this team (no RB, RM or second CB). They will attack from right to left, ending with a shot on goal.

The opposing team will be attacking from top to bottom as we look, they will set up the same only with no left side to their team.

In Action - Pattern 1 (15 mins)

In the initial stage, allow players to acclimatize to the exercise. Each player must touch the ball at least once before ST can shoot on goal (red cone represents offside line). They may play in any pattern they choose however make sure the play is fast by ensuring that the following good habits are observed:

- Scanning 2/3 times before receiving the ball

- Try to have an idea where the ball is going next

- Support quickly

- Movement to lose marker

- Play at different heights (not in same line as another player)

- Body shape when receiving

- Communication

- Shape (based on ball movement, step up when ball is played forward, drop when negative)

Once happy with the above, add a pattern.

1 - Play through midfield to get the ball wide to LW, touch is inside allowing LB to overlap & cross for ST to score (shown with black team)

In Action - Pattern 2 (15 mins)

Pattern 2 is to get runners from midfield past the ST. The ball will begin wide before making it's way back into midfield. From there the ball is played into the striker who will lay off for a CM player who plays a through ball to another midfield runner past the ST.

Shown here with the black team.

Game Play (20 mins)

Now we play with just one ball, play begins with CB. IF the black team are in possession, the white players positions will change as shown. Once possession is won back, the same happens to the black team.

As players to win the ball back quickly wherever possible.
