Football Problem:
What:We are unable to penetrate the first defensive line
Who: 3&4, 6&8
When: We try to play from the 3&4 into the middle third
Where: In the defensive third
Why: Because we aren’t in good positions to receive a pass and play the ball forward
Session Objective: The objective is to focus on structured build-up from the back to find a player in the middle third facing forward

Session Organisation:
20 min (2x10min)
Attackers objective - move the ball from end to end
Defenders objective - win the ball and make 3 passes
Rules:
- Start with the 3/4, all restarts with 3/4
-If opposition win ball, try to make 3 passes then find 3/4
-Provide 4 options L,R,Cand far
-Ground passes, 2 touch (1 to receive, 1 to play)
Progressions:
1. smaller space (20 x15 / 15 x 12)
2. limited touches
3. 3 v 3 with 2 ‘neutral’ players
Team Task
Structured buildup playing out from back trying to get the ball to a player at the top of the grid (9).
Player Tasks/Challenges
-Receive ball facing forward
-Look to play forward but be patient
-Play back to retain possession if no forward options
-Open/maximisespace, provide options L,R, C

When - Just post competent execution
How (the player is going to execute the action): Sharp passes, Good body shape, Sharp movement, Protect the ball

Rules - Full game rules, Reds drop to edge of def/mid third, Red 9 to close the passing lane to 6, Redmidfield to hold, Reds have 10 sec to score
Progressions -
1. free touches, later 3/2 touches building-up
2. half/full resistance defending players
3. scoring-attempt within ..... seconds

Player Tasks
GK look to play 3 or 4
Defenders look to play high into the middle third
Midfielders look to receive the ball facing forward in between the lines
Forward stay high up the field to provide outlet and score goals
Coaching Cues
When GK has the ball
When GK has the ball can 2/5 start high and wide
Before GK starts can 3/4-can you split of the edge of the box
When 3/4 have the ball can you play 6/8
If 6/8 create space can 3/4 drive forward
When 3/4 receive the ball can 2/5 position yourself to receive
Can 6/8 push high to create space for 3/4 to drive forward after 6/8 can 6/8 move into position to create a passing lane for 10
Can 9 get into passing lane to receive the ball

1.GK plays 3/4, play 6/8, play 2/5, play 9 dynamic on the way back and swap sides.
2.GK play 3/4, play 6/8, play 9, play 2/5, dynamic on the way back and swap sides.
3.GK play 6/8, bounce 3/4, 3/4 play 2/5, 2/5 play 9, dynamic on the way back and swap sides.
4. Add passive defenders @ 2/5, attacker moves on, attacker becomes defender.
