Specfic Session - 15 Minutes
3 x 3min30sec blocks
Objectives Welsh Principles:
Understand when and how to stop the switch of play byforcing the
direction of play, defending narrow and leaving the furthest
player/s.
Organization & Objectives: 3/4 Pitch - Blue Team Simulating a 1-
4-4-2 & Red Team Simulating a 1-4-3-3
Red - 1-4-3-1
Blue - 1-2-4-2
How: We are working with the out of possession team, blue, we
will be encouraging the blues to split the field in half and force play
outside into our pressure and players. Reds will shuffle across
and leave the far side blue open
Challenges:
Blues get 2 points for scoring after a switch of play
Conditions:
Reds must tryto score within 7 seconds of winning the ball back
Key Points:
-Force the ball down one side, continue to show outside
-Leave the furthest player of the field
-Defend narrow and keep lines together
-Timing of pressure on the ball, ensure the ball has been played first then get close
-Can our 9 cut the switch off of the central backs and move the ball into our midfield he must time this run on ideally when the CB is
receiving the ball
-Our midfield will shuffle over a player to free up our number 10 and leave the FB open on the far side of the field
-Can our 10 press the ball carrier and force outside into our FB
What Ifs:
What if the opponent is able to switch?
-If we are able to get good pressure on the ball without the opponent being able to advance towards our goal we should do this. If not
then we will drop until we get in line and then we can begin to press again
What if we have overlapping movement, how do we deal with it?
-If we are beaten by good movement then the next closest player will leave his/her line and apply pressure and someone from the next
line can drop in or the player that was just beat could recover

Preventing the Switch of Play // Out of Possession (10 mins)
Specfic Session - 10 Minutes
Objectives Welsh Principles:
Understand when and how to stop the switch of play byforcing the
direction of play, defending narrow and leaving the furthest
player/s.
Pressure must be on the ball , Force one Direction, make play
predictable.
Organization & Objectives: 3/4 Pitch - Blues are trying to score in
the 3 mini goals, Red have 2 counter goals to playtoo or pass the
ball to the assistant coaches feet at the top of the field. Blue must
playthe ball through the 4 boxes before theycan score. Before play
begins one of the blue players must get a new ball from the
assistant coach, the assistant will wait for the next play, he is
looking for the reds to be in place, the two lines are the starting
points for each line of players, make sure the assistant varies the
starting ball and goes left and right alternatively. This will enable
the Reds to get in position after each attack.
Red in a 1-4-3-1 and Blue in a 2-4-2 the blue have a common
player on the end line that anyteam can playtoo.
Activity = 8 mins split into a 2 min intro to the activity and then one
6min block split with a short terminal coaching invervention.
How: We are working with the out of possession team, blue, we
will be encouraging the blues to split the field in half and force play
outside into our pressure and players. Reds will shuffle across
and leave the far side blue open
Points & Scoring:
Reds - If reds break up a attack and then score on a counter in the
small goals or byfinding the target = 3 points
Blues - If theycan score after clearing the 4 boxes = 3 points
Challenges:
If Blue intercept theycan immediatelyscore in either the small
goals or finding the target player in yellows feet.
Conditions:
Red must clear the 4 boxes with the ball before theycan score
Challenges:
Can the reds win the ball in the top two boxes for 2 points
Key Points:
-Force the ball down one side, continue to show outside
-Leave the furthest player of the field
-Defend narrow and keep lines together
-Timing of pressure on the ball, ensure the ball has been played first then get close
What Ifs:

Specific Practice (25 mins)
