Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): keeping possession
Description
aim: to improve on being able to keep possession
objective 1 : to develop players ability to keep the ball when under pressure
objective 2 : to develop players ability to create angles and make the space big
objective 3 : to develop players early stages of reaction to win the ball back when they lose the ball and not dwell on it losing it
client group : u13 football camp
participants : 12
equipment : balls , bibs , cones , mini goals

technical practice ( 15 )
Organisation/instructions:
-Two boxes
-2 teams of 6
-Blue team starts with the ball
-red sends 2 players to win the the ball back
-if red win back pass back into their own box and reds then keep possession
blues send 2 players to win it back
-if ball goes out of play or loss of possession ball will be fed in from the side to opposite team
Coaching Points:
make the area big , spread out use the space
have a shape about your team when in possession
Communication from pressing players
where do you want to go before the ball gets to you ?
quick reaction to go win the ball back in turnover of possession
Progressions:
-2 touch limit
-10 passes = a point for your team

game related practice ( 10 )
Organisation/instructions:
-5v5 with 2 neutral end players
-Try go from one target to the other to get 1 point
-end players will swap bibs with a player within the box after a period of time so that everyone has a shot
Coaching Points:
-accuracy of passing
-Weight of pass
-creating angles and moving off the ball to create space
-don't all get sucked to the ball and close off the space
- reiterate importance of using the whole area making the space big
-knowing whats around you ,
-positive first touch, what direction are you playing?
Progressions:
- neutral end players are limited to one touch
- players in the middle are limited to 2 touch

fun game ( 10 )
organisation/instructions
-normal 6 v 6 game with no goalkeepers
-must make 3 passes before your team can score
-balls start in either goal if your team score you start again as quick as you can from your goal
Coaching points:
- have an organised shape to your team
- keep possession and don't be in a rush to the goal if its not on
- think about everything we worked on previous and try take it into the game
team with most goals wins

Organizational / Instructions
- jog around within the area we used, collecting all balls , small goals and cones used
- once back in gather round in a circle and go through some stretches and get the group calm

Organization:
- 2 rondo boxes of 6 players each
- 5 players keeping the ball , 2 players in the middle chasing
- once player in the middle wins ball back they switch with whoever lost possession
- first player to win it back switches , it then goes to which ever player is in the box the longest switches with whoever gave the ball away
- continuous
- maximum 2 touch
Coaching Points:
- on the bounce on the outside ready to recieve the ball
- create angles for a pass
- never stand still , can we pass and then move ?
- communication from players in the middle to press together
- have an idea of what your going to do with your next pass before the ball comes to you
Progressions:
- if standard is good , progress to 1 touch
