What: To improve mobility off the ball of the 2nd attacker and 3rd attackers to create and advance the attack 

Where: MIddle 1/3 Central to Attacking 1/3

Who: #6,#8,#10

When: #6 is in possession of the ball attempting to advance the ball to attacking 1/3

Why: #8 and #10 are not providing optimal passing angles due to their inability to recognize passing pockets in between the opponents (6#,#8,#10)

Introduction (10 mins)

Organization:

  • 4 grids of 15x15
  • 2 teams of 4
  • 1 ball per team

Instructions:

  • Players can only pass and move in their grid
  • Each team will have one ball to complete as many passes as possible.
  • 1 point for the team with the most passes completed without losing possession of the ball. Best out of 5 rounds
  • 1-minute rounds 45-second rest ratio x 5

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Correct body shape position to receive
  • Synchronized movements to identify where to support the next passing option
  • Scan over your shoulders/Peripheral view. 
  • What information can we acquire when scanning before making the next pass?
  • Communicate verbally/Non-verbal cues.
  • Lock eyes to communicate with your teammates
  • Apply the proper weight on the pass.

  • 1-2 touch

Main Activity (20 mins)

Organization:

  • 2 grids of 15x15
  • 2 teams of 4
  • 1 ball
  • Bank of soccer balls by the feeder ( Coach Roberto) 

Instructions:

  • Possession game 
  • 1 minute per round 45-second rest ratio x 6 times
  • Each Pair of Players must remain in their independent grid
  • The team who secures possession the longest wins
  • Directional Red attacks mini goals as they advance towards the big goal, Blue attacks the mini goal placed on the Mid 1/3

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Scan over your shoulders. Identify the velocity of the press from Oppo
  • How can we secure possession when pressure is arriving?
  • Secure and manipulate the environment of the ball. How?
  • Synchronized movements off the ball to create passing options.
  • Calm and Composed on the ball when under pressure/Shield
  • Don't Panic and reject the ball.

Progressions:

  • 2-3 touches per player
  • If the team is able to combine with one player from the opposite grid going forward, one player can join the attack.

  • No restrictions

Conditioned Game (25 mins)

Organization:

  • Two independent grids of 18x15 Horizontal
  • 2 teams of 4 and 1v1 
  • Directional

Instructions:

  • The team in possession of the ball attempts to progress to the attacking 1/3 from the mid1/3
  • If defenders win the ball they can score on the mini goals in the Mid1/3
  • 2-minute games 45-second rest ratio x 5 Rounds
  • Best of 5 rounds wins

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • combine and escape to the weak side of the opponents
  • catch and play
  • Secure possession
  • Scan over your shoulders. Gain information off the ball to create space for the next passing option

Progressions:

  • If you score by connecting a pass with the neutral players from the outside, you get 2 goals.
  • If you connect a pass with both players on the outside and score you get 3 goals
