Warm Up (10 mins)

Setup:

10 Cones

Cones 5 yards apart with the 1st and 3rd cone a different colour.

Exercise from 1st cone to 3rd Cone.  

  • Normal jogging back to start

Warm Up/Passing Practice (20 mins)

Setup:

Field Size: Half Field

Players: 12

Equipment: 8 Mannequins, 2 poles, 10 balls.

Explanation:

All players follow the pass.

6 plays into the CB, who has checked off there marker to receive on the back foot. They play it out to their Fullback, receive on the back foot and plays it into the number 10, who checks short and inside to receive on the back foot. Number 9 checks outside to receive from the 10 and plays a 1 -2 around the mannaquin. 

Progression:

  • 6 plays it into the centre back who plays it through to the 10, 10 drops it off for the full back who plays it into the 9 who plays a 1-2 with the 10 around the mannequin.
  • CB's Choice - Play Full Back or Play through
  • Add a defender in the space between the 6 & FB. When the CB receives, the defender looks to cutoff one of the passing lanes, either the outside pass or the through pass. As soon as the ball is passed the defender, they are done. 
  • Add a second defender to man mark the 10. 
  • Finally, defenders are live and they defend everywhere.  

Coaching Points

  • Movement of the Mannequins to be late and fast.

  • FB's - When ball played through to #10, support from underneath.

Positioning Game (20 mins)

Setup:

Field Size: 40 x 30

Players: 6

Equipment: 1 PUG, 4 poles, 24 Cones, 6 Balls


Explanation:

Square split into 3 zones.

4v3. Red 3 in a mid block. 4 Blues attack the single PUG, if the red win the ball they attack the 2 goals made out of poles.

Ball starts with the coach, who serves it into the centre back. Reds cant defend outside the front of their zone. 

Offside line is the back of the middle zone.

Time limit - 7 minutes

Drive the Red team to continually press the ball.

Scoring Method:

1 point per goal scored

Losing team 10 push ups.

Progression:

  • High Block - Reds to break the line and press immediately as the 3 touches ball
  • Defence's Choice - High Block/Mid Block

Game Training (25 mins)

Setup:

Field Size: Half-Field

Players: 14

Equipment: 3 Pug, 3 Cones, 7 Blue Bibs, 6 Red Bibs. 10 Balls

Explanation:

Blue team are playing towards the 3 PUG which represent the 7,9,11.

Red team are attacking the full size goal.

Ball always starts with the goalkeeper.

Red team start in a mid block and cant press the ball until it has passed the line of cones. 

Time Limit - 7 Minutes

Scoring Method:

Blue - 1 point per goal

Red - 2 points per goal

Progression:

  •  Remove 3 cones and now Red's Press in a high block

Starting Positions:

 As per the diagram, play is not restated until all players are in position.

Team Task:

Find 2v1.

Player Tasks & Cues

  • Correct starting position in relation to the ball.
  • Cover defence (Sweeper Keeper)

  • Provide width

  • Tuck inside to provide cover in case of loss of possession

  • Be an option for 2/5 & 6 from underneath

  • Support 10/8 from underneath
  • If 2/5 push forward, provide cover in the centre of defence.

  • Provide depth when in BP, looking to get into advanced positions.
  • Provide cover, in front of the back 4 when in BPO.

  • Provide Depth
  • Remain at the top of the triangle of the 6 & 8 to provide an early outlet in transition.

Cool Down (10 mins)

Setup:

All players in a circle

Explanation:

  • Before getting all the players in a circle, 1 straight line. Slow jog to the middle of the field and back and then getting into a circle.
  • Upper Body Stretch, From a standing position, interlace your fingers and press your palms up toward the ceiling
    • Seated Forward Bend -
      • Sit with your legs extended in front of you.
      • Lift your arms.
      • Hinge at your hips to fold forward.
      • Place your hands on your legs or the floor.
      • Hold this position for up to 1 minute.
    • Knee to Chest Pose -
      • Lie on your back with your left leg bent or extended.
      • Draw your right knee in toward your chest, interlacing your fingers around the front of your shin.
      • Hold this position for up to 20 seconds.
      • Repeat on the opposite side.
      • Do each side 2 to 3 times.
      • Reclining Butterfly Pose -
        • Lie on your back with the soles of your feet together and your knees out to the sides.
        • Place your arms alongside your body or overhead.
        • Hold this position for 1 minutes.
      • Childs Pose -
        • From tabletop position, sink back to sit on your heels, reaching your arms forward or alongside your body.
        • Allow your chest to fall heavy into your thighs, breathing deeply.
        • Rest your forehead on the floor.
        • Hold this position for 1 minutes.
      • Downward Facing Dog -
        • From tabletop or plank position, move your hips up and back, keeping your spine straight.
        • Spread your fingers and press your weight evenly between hands.
        • Pedal out your legs by pressing one heel into the floor at a time.
        • Hold this position for 1 minute.
      • Standing Quad Stretch -
        • From a standing position, bend your right knee to bring your heel toward your buttock.
        • Hold your ankle with one or both hands.
        • Keep your knees in alignment next to each other, and don’t pull your knee out to the side.
        • Hold this position for 15 seconds.
        • Repeat on the opposite side.
        • Do each side 2 to 3 times.
