This session is designed to teach boys how to effectively play through the thirds of the pitch.
Aims:
1. To work on playing out from the back to play into forwards and support the attack.
2. Securing possession through movement and positioning to create attacking overloads and score.
3. Also to create overloads in different areas of the pitch.

Organization:
10 yards x 30 yards.
4 blues, 4 reds, and 2 yellows (neutrals/targets).
Instructions:
Exercise starts with a hand ball game to explain the game to the players.
Play 4 blues vs 2 reds + 1 yellow neutral/target in each grid with other neutral/target in the central zone (as shown in the diagram). The practice begins with the coach playing the ball into the blue team, the blues must make a minimum of 3 passes inside their grid and look to find the neutral/target in the middle to score a point. The second yellow neutral/target that is receiving the ball in the middle central zone anticipates receiving the ball by moving/showing at an angle, then look to switch the ball into the opposite grid with two players. Once he switches the play, the neutral/target player joins in to support the players inside the grid to make 3 passes. The first yellow neutral/target that started inside the grid with the blues quickly moves back into the central zone. The other 2 red defenders that were defending against the blue team transition back quickly into their grid to keep the ball away from the 2 blue defenders. Once they successfully play into the neutral/target in the middle, the sequence is then repeated from the opposite side.
Whenever the ball is won by the defending team inside the opposition grid, they must look to find the yellow neutral/target in the central zone and that counts for two points. If they win possession by playing the ball out of the opposition area, then the play will automatically restart inside their grid with the coach playing a new ball into their grid and they must quickly run back into their grid to support play. The team that lost possession must look to send the next two defenders into the opposition grid to win back possession.
Progression:
- Play minimum of 4 passes before finding neutral/target, this way the tempo increases.
- Maximum of two touches.
Coaching points:
- Quick transitioning from attacking to defending and vice-versa.
- Movement to receive the ball.
- Try to pass forward quickly once the minimum pass is completed.
- Accuracy, speed, weight and spin of pass.
- Speed of movement to support the player on the ball.
- High pressing to win the ball back when defending.

Organization:
1v1 in the end zones, 2v2 in the central zones and with 2 neutrals outside of the end zones
Instructions:
Directional play with each team given a direction to play into. Teams obtain a point if able to play into their target on the end line they are playing into. Neutral will then play immediately to the opposing team looking to go the opposite direction.
Teams can play back to neutrals to maintain possession and only the players in the central zone can move into the next grid only when they pass forward to create an attacking overload. If the ball bounces off an opponent and goes forward into end zone, one player is allowed to join the next grid to create a 2v1 attacking overload.
Coaching Points:
-Look to play forward as a first option "Option A-Highest available Target"
-Ability of the midfield players to play off the back shoulder of their counterparts to be able to open up passing lanes to play forward / become secondary option to receive on backfoot to play into
-Movement of the player in final grid to look to create the 3rd line to receive the ball
Progressions:
- Targets can play directly into the central zone.
- Remove grids and progress to scrimmage.
