Description

Switching the play in possession specific practice allow the team to play a normal SSG with no restrictions.

Then bring in the condition of using the channels before scoring. The ball has to be played into both channels before the team can attempt on goal. A set rule is that only one person from each team is allowed in each channel at a time. This can be any position, it is up to the players to identify what players should be going into them areas, if the players have not identified the correct time or positioning of going into the channels then stop for an intervention.

Coaching points:

1- Always have the width when in possession, creates space to play.

2- Moving the ball with purpose from one side to the other moves the opposition.

3- Triggers of when to switch the play, having that depth for the outlet to play the other way.

4- Which players can offer us width in a game, full backs or wingers.

After the specific task has taken place, result back to the SSG without conditions to see if the team has successfully switched the play and took on information learnt.
